Akaka and Inouye, both WWII Vets, vote yes on repealing DADT.

Great day in America.

28. McCain had hoped that his legacy would be like that of JFK, or even GHW Bush ...
JFK has a PT boat shot out from under him, survives, goes into the government, becomes President.

GHW Bush gets shot down, survives, goes into government, becomes President.

McCain gets shot down AND becomes a POW, survives, goes into government and tries to become President in 2000 and 2008. After all, THAT was his destiny. But it does not happen.

The bitter McCain, who thought he'd follow in the line of JFK, and GHW Bush ... set his legacy today.

McCain = Strom Thurmond. Bitter. Old. Bigot. On the wrong side of history.

44. "shot down" is a bit off the mark.
He crashed every one of those planes, I don't care what you read. He was, quite simply, a terrible pilot.

The truth is that the majority of our downed pilots in SE Asia were ditches or malfunctions. At the time, the Chinese were supplying the Bad Guys with WWII-era ordnance. They were a lot better at simply blowing us up than shooting us down.

Sound familiar?

62. I read about HW's WWII folly in Russ Baker's book Family of Secrets
Bush has been inconsistent: at first he said that he ordered his crewmates to parachute out, another time he said that he saw them die. (pp. 18-21, look it up in Google Books)

72. I don't think he has the principles of character to be a bigot. He believes in nothing.
What ever will get him a little more buddy-buddy with the rich or a powerful friend. Whatever position furthers that goal, that is his position. It's not even a matter of survival his will was broken long ago. I don't despise him. I just don't trust his actions.

27. I'm overjoyed that DADT is overturned! I can just hear
a loud sigh of relief coming from our armed forces, and also from those who want to serve but are afraid they'd be found out. DADT was terrible legislation, but at the time, it moved the ball forward, and today it's obsolete thinking.

Edited on Sat Dec-18-10 06:52 PM by terrya
A LOT of people were responsible for this...President Obama. Admiral Mullen. Secretary Gates. The Democratic leadership in both the House and Senate. House Speaker Pelosi for steering repeal TWICE through the House. A tremendous ally, Rep. Patrick Murphy. Kirsten Gillebrand and Mark Udall in the Senate. The SLDN. The LCR, for pushing the lawsuit for DADT repeal through the courts. Lt. Dan Choi, Victor Fehenbach, Mike Almy, Margaret Witt.

And I will happily call both of my Senators, Durbin and Kirk, to thank them for their votes on Monday. :-)

35. Dear Congress:
That odd, light, elated feeling you're experiencing right now?

Don't take medication, you don't need it.

That's the feeling of doing the right thing.

Now, how do you imagine you'd feel if you catered to the people ALL THE TIME, strengthening the country while you're at it?

It could be bliss all the time … all you have to do is reach out and grasp it.
