19. I have an amusing "GO FUCK YOURSELF" story related to gay rights

My wife and I live in the Chicago suburbs. We often go on vacation in the beautiful mountains of the Southern Appalachians (about a 10-hour drive) and rent a cabin for the week. We've had many such rentals, because we always want to explore a new area (we go on long dayhikes to waterfalls & mountain views).

A few years ago we rented a cabin at http://safehavenfarm.com/">Save Haven Farm in Tennessee close to the North Carolina border not far from Roan Mountain. The proprietors are a middle-aged couple who decided to move from California and do something different, so they started building vacation rental cabins and created their Safe Haven Farm. The wife decided to become a minister, and they also built a nice outdoor pavillion for weddings -- including gay marriage ceremonies (not officially recognized in Tennessee).

I found the place on the internet, and when I called to make a reservation she mentioned the place was "on the buckle of the bible belt" and that there was a fundamentalist Baptist church we had to pass on the small road up to Safe Haven. She said there wasn't anything to worry about as long as we kept to ourselves (in relation to the locals on that road).

When we got there I had an interseting conversation with her. She told me how the Baptist preacher angrily confronted her when he learned she was performing gay wedding ceremonies. She recounted how he got even more angrier every time she calmly replied to him. Finally, with his face beet red and veins bulging from his neck and spittle coming from his lips, he shouted "GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!"

She calmly replied, "If I could do that I'd never have to leave the house."
