1. let us know when he sends his own children to war
so noble of him to allow gays to serve and die in the military. Yeah, he came through.

17. I see your point, but this rhetorical tack has always bothered me.
One's children are Other People. Even as a parent, one doesn't have the right to force one's kids to serve and die ANYWHERE against their will, regardless of the parents' political positions.

I say this as the daughter of a Vietnam-era draft resister who almost got disowned from his family because of it. I respect my great-grandfather and grandfather's service (WWI and WWII respectively) and I ALSO respect my father's principled objection to a war he thought was wrong, although his father supported it.

18. it shouldn't bother you unless you are in a position of power
Edited on Sun Dec-19-10 10:37 AM by fascisthunter
to send others children to die. And I'd hope if you did have that power you'd feel some sympathy for those other parents. That's what Lieberman has done and I doubt he gives a shit to speak plainly.

5. He's up for reelection in 2012 and has the lowest approval rating of any senator.
And yet, I am happy that he took the lead on this issue and stood up to his boyfriends, McCain and Graham.

6. Personally, I think Lieberman is doing this to look more progressive,
to make himself competitive with the Dem nominee for 2012. I've posted before and I'll post it again: Joe Lieberman will run for president in 2012. As a Republican.

9. this isn't a big departure for lieberman
he's always been more like a normal democrat socially.

he's just had a knack for picking a few BIG issues to go right-wing on and letting that define his image.

personally, i'd much, MUCH rather have a LOYAL and consistent left-leaning democrat, but he's really more democratic than republican if you look at his record as a whole.

as for a presidential run, no, i don't think that's in the cards for him.

11. Lieberman's always been one of our best votes on social issues.
If it weren't for his perpetual hard-on for Israel and "National Security," he'd be one of our better Senators.

14. Lieberman Can Still Kiss My Ass.

Traitorous little bastard. Whatever good he did on DADT is offset a hundred times by his scummy, self-serving actions over the years. He makes my skin crawl, and he always will.....

A friend of mine just pointed out that he came in to vote on Shabbos. He doesn't usually do that. It went way, way beyond lip service for him.
