Those That Deserve The Most Credit For The Repeal Of DADT |
|
Those that deserve the most credit for the repeal of DADT are those that gave up careers that they loved and stood on principal instead of keeping their mouths shut and maintaining the status quo.
These are the real heroes who risked everything they knew in favor of a better way of life for all.
Hopefully many of these brave former soldiers will be able to go back to the career that they love.

with this repeal??
I'm so glad that black folks didn't scream this loudly when Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. God knows how many black folks and white abolitionists fought and died for slavery to end, and Lincoln is given all of the credit. Did black folks scream and whine about that or did they just "hey, thanks Abe?"
Ditto with Truman and desegregating the military. Who knows how many blacks and their white supporters died and went to jail for that to happen. No one EVER talks about them when the desegregation of the military is discussed. Truman gets all of the love and folks are okay with that because at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that justice was done.
Wonder why so many are breaking into a sweat trying to "differentiate" who REALLY should be given the credit for the repeal of DADT? Do you think that the gay servicemen and women have time for your tired little games right now knowing that for the first time in THE HISTORY OF THIS NATION they will not have to hide who they are in order to fight for their country?

Obama or Reid or anyone else for that matter did not deserve credit?
All I said was, those that those deserve the credit are those that gave up their careers.
Overreact much?
Edit: Typos.

6. I don't really follow your logic |
|
The people who gave up their careers were protesters and that's always good. Speaking out is good. BUt Obama made this an item on his agenda. Would it have even come up for vote if he hadn't made a promise a year ago to repeal it? I don't have the answer to that, but 8 years of bush and the subject never came up.

8. Do you believe it would of been an issue if |
|
the gay and lesbian community said "you know what, the current law isn't so bad, no need to change this"?
It would of still have been an injustice, just an acceptable injustice.

"No one EVER talks about them when the desegregation of the military is discussed."
That says a lot about you. I take the Howard Zinn approach to history. It's the people who do the hardest part of the job that often get overlooked.
Again, I never said Obama and/or Reid do not deserve credit.
