Dems. DO have a Global TV Network since 2005, but I never heard of it until today! What a Godsend!
Edited on Tue Feb-08-11 04:17 PM by Cal33
I never knew "Current TV" has been in existence since 2005. It was founded by Al Gore, but has remained
small and largely unknown. I remember having read about a couple of journalists who had been taken prisoner
by North Korea, and after 5 months were freed, when Bill Clinton visited North Korea for that purpose. Well,
these journalists were from Current TV. Here are some of its channels:

Direct TV Channel 358
Comcast " 107
Time Warner Cable N.Y. 103
" " " L.A. 142
Dish Network 196

You can contact "Current.com" for more channels.

Today I read Keith Olbermann has joined Current TV and will continue his news broadcasts from there. We can
try to spread this information and help Current TV to grow - and fast! How many others are there who, like
me, have never even heard of it until today?

Liberals DO have a global TV Network, but - as usual - we don't know how to make use of what we have! Al
Gore has already done his share in having founded the Network. Do Liberals WANT to be beaten? I hope we
don't have a sub-conscious death-wish, do we?

Hope you will all help to spread the word around. Remember, the Repubs. own 90% of the news media.
AND THEY SURE KNOW HOW TO MAKE USE OF WHAT THEY HAVE. Here's a chance to help better the odds. Please
help spread the word around, and do whatever else you can think of that will make Current TV grow and be heard! There are too many ignorant people around. They need to be educated.

And many thanks.

4. Why do you call this a "liberal" network?
Most of the programming isn't even political. The fact that Al Gore is the founder shouldn't mean much, other than it caters to a more intellectual crowd, which might circumstantially be more liberal than others.

9. Sometimes I use the words "Dem." and "Lib" interchangeably. I
realize it isn't always correct.

As for "Most of the programming isn't even political," I never
even knew this channel existed until today. And from what I've
seen of it today, you are correct. But let me say that with
Olbermann's joining the channel, it won't stay apolitical
too long now,

5. If you go to the site and you company is not one of the ones in the OP,
there is a drop down box for other companies - I didn't look at many - just mine - and all you can really do is get information. It does not look like they have been added to a large number of companies. (We have Cablevision which is pretty big.)

31. I know - and I saw that Time/Warner that serves most of Manhattan has it
My point is that where MSNBC is on (I think) every cable company - even if not in the basic tier - there are major areas not served. That is likely why the numbers are so low.

33. It seems that Current TV hasn't spent enough time and money on
getting itself known, so it has remained unknown -- with about 25,000 viewers -- which
is a very small number. Things will be very different from now on.

34. I hope so
It is annoying to have hundreds of channels - most of which you could not pay me to watch. But, I have also sent any number of emails telling Cablevision that I want BBC USA. I do not even get a form letter response! BBC USA has 65,000,000 subscribers per this - http://www.ncta.com/OrganizationType/CableNetwork/1598.aspx?hidenavlink=true&type=orgtyp2

35. I'd venture a guess that with so many subscribers, BBC USA
probably also comes with a very high fee.

37. I would think the opposite - the greater number of subscribers decreases
the amount that each would need to provide to produce the same funding. The very low number of subscribers to Current, likely means it does not yet make money, it has very low costs, or that it needs a higher amount for inclusion. (I do think the BBC USA programs cost more, but they are mostly from the BBC, so the costs are spread over even higher numbers of people.

costly to join or "buy into" a large, established company.

6. I discovered this during the last presidential election debate...
Current TV was THE place to go if you were on Twitter so you could see comments almost immediately up on the screen rolling underneath the candidates as they debated...LOVED THAT, but then the channel began to to downhill and it was easier to just watch their videos online than live. Hopefully the addition of Keith will completely change this around for the better.

10. I've been a huge fan of Current for years now and let me tell you
people here at DU have been resistant to watching, as have other people I know. I've been surprised at how set in their ways viewers are. I'm glad Current will have a famous face now, because people seem to need that to pull them in. Best documentary journalism on TV and it has been a chore to get people to watch.

11. I'll be watching Current from now on. According to their ad they are
open to suggestions for their programming. Is it true? Have you ever
tried making suggestions? I have one to make right now. They should
have a special program on prime time refuting the Republican lies --
and with proof. Half of the country believes those lies!

13. Actually, Al Gore and investors actually destroyed a wonderful channel
called Newsworld International to create the Current.

NWI was mostly Canadian content with newscasts and features from other parts of the world as well.

Their coverage of the invasion of Iraq was outstanding. Canada did not participate in the invasion, so its coverage lacked the "hurray for our side" tone of U.S. media and even the BBC.

I tried to watch the Current the first couple of days it was on, and it was like YouTube. Lots of vanity videos.

To do a REAL public service, Al Gore should have publicized Newsworld International throughout the leftist press and blogosphere and left it alone.

19. About 20 years ago I was in Montreal for a week. I noticed that
their news covered far more of the rest of the world than what we had
here in the USA. I felt that I was really being informed. It was the
same way when I was living in Europe. Broadcasting American news only
does help to keep the American people mentally apart and isolated.
I think that's the way corporations want to keep us, so that we can be
more easily manipulated.

I hope Current TV will have more international news also.
