Let's not lose perspective via media hype. http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/fisk/If you want to know what's happening the ME, Fisk is a great source. Cooper, well, meh.

through those dark times. I don't know if there is an Englishman that has more knowledge of the Middle East than him.

He is one of the Ruling Class as are most of the so-called journalists on TV.

I have no time for his BS. His swashbuckling reporter image he tries so hard to craft is gone as well since he took a powder on Egypt after getting beaten up. Fucking poseur that he is.

That doesn't make him anything more than an adequate reporter.
Fisk, on the other hand, has been doing the gruntwork in the ME for decades. He is the one with perspective.

|
Then films himself re-hashing the shit and throwing in a couple of his own personal eyewitness accounts. Guy's a tool. I haven't seen her in a while, but Amanpour was the best CNN ever had.

PS Just kidding. I know there are equivalents to Fisk in this country, but a lot of people may think Cooper is this era's Dan Rather or something.

for hours a day right now so, I got to hear a candid discussion of the election atrocity we're committing in Haiti right now. I almost fell out of my chair: no kissing up to our government, two informed guests. It was almost too much for me. :)

Opinions are opinions, but the slightest degree of research into comparing the careers of these two gents reveals hard data that's quite germane to the argument made by the OP.

Fisk is educated on the issues in a way that Cooper certainly isn't. I still don't get your need to praise him by disparaging Cooper. It's lame.

40. He is a brilliant reporter who always told the truth |
|
reported facts, no 'both sides are doing it' for him, as we here in the U.S. get all the time.
He is a REAL journalist, someone who has been reporting on the stories the U.S. media is just beginning to notice now, for decades. Too bad there were so few like him. The thugs of the world would have been toppled long ago if we had real journalists in this country like Robert Fisk. It was to him and a few others, like Dahr Jamail, that we had to turn to to get the truth over the past decade.
It's nice that AC is now finally telling the truth about the Egyptian regime. But has he revealed the facts about the close relationship it has to this government? How this government sent people to be tortured there under the supervision of the guy the U.S. is now supporting to take over from Mubarak, Suleiman?
AC will only go so far to tell the truth and only when it has been decided there is no more denying it.
But Fisk never holds back facts as he finds them, in war zones, at the top of governments, or anywhere else. Maybe that is why the Brits are a bit more informed than Americans and why Americans get so excited when someone like AC finally acts like a real journalist, for a while.
