Sex Scandal Might Bring Down John Boehner

Progressives could use some positive political news, and here is the best I’ve heard in some time: John Boehner’s speakership in the U.S. House of Representatives might be short lived.

Boehner has been involved in extramarital affairs with at least two women, according to a new report in the National Enquirer. We don’t normally cite supermarket tabloids as primary source material. But the Enquirer was first to write about the John Edwards’ infidelity, and the newspaper proved to be right on target. And back in the early ’90s, the mainstream press picked up on the Bill Clinton/Gennifer Flowers story after it broke in a tabloid.

In Boehner’s case, the Enquirer gets into specifics–and that gives the story a ring of truth:

1. Hear those crickets? That's the "liberal media" hard at work on this story.
*crickets*

Yep, they sure picked up the John Edwards story and ran with it!
But it took a while.

If it were a Democrat, the right wing and their media/propaganda machine would be all over it 24/7

14. Chris Lee actually did the semi-honorable thing
But of course, as a Republican, he first had to tell a lie before he came clean. "Someone hacked my account! Oh . . . ya got pictures? I quit."

But David Vitter? Jon Ensign? When was the last time you heard a peep about either one of those honorable gentlemen and their respective predilections for hookers and staff members?

17. You'd think they'd learn...
it never ceases to amaze me how none of them think they can ever be caught.

Arrogance? Stupidity?

I don't have half the scandal in my past (let alone the present) that many of them have, but I wouldn't even think about going into public office for fear of having those things exposed.

In any case, what about the guy who got caught playing footsies in the men's room...I forgot his name. Wasn't he a Republican, and didn't the media have a party with that scandal?

we should probably make sure there's plenty of antibiotics and disinfectant in the forests of Borneo....

19. Somehow I doubt she would be swayed by no-accountability defense contracts.
Maybe a bag of grapefruits would work, but I still think her standards would be higher.

22. Scandal is the least of his problems.
Rachel Maddow is doing a great job of reporting the dismal job Boehner is doing as Speaker. So far...epic fail. Some of the young turks that I see behind him at his pressers have a "lean and hungry look".

25. not sure the alternative would be better
boner is at least occasionally reasonable, and embarrassingly weepy and orange. He's a failure so far as a leader for the republicans. I like that.
If he steps down who do we get? Cantor the hair-dyed asshole? he may be more effective. I think we should just leave this one alone...

28. Vitter has set the bar and the bar is low.
If you can get caught with a prostitute who makes your diaper fetish common knowledge and still be re-elected Boehner is going to be A-OK.

We already knew that he was is bed with lobbyists figuratively so it's not much a leap to find it he was doing it literally as well. Boehner is also the guy who was handing out tobacco lobby checks on the house floor with impunity and he'll get away with this too.

The media is going to ignore this and he'll skate. :(
