9. Oh. You mean Dean is going to pick Obama's VP candidate...
now I understand.

For a minute there, I thought you were suggesting that Obama wouldn't be the 2012 Democratic Presidential nominee.

3. Green Party like nader or the No Labels party?
Edited on Sun Dec-19-10 10:02 AM by stray cat
It is usually a losing policy to have a third party candidate on the left - or I should say it is a winning policy for the GOP

But I doubt Dean will run so it's all silly speculation, IMO.

5. Anthony Weiner shouldn't be Dean's VP pick in 2012
Because Dean thinks a primary against Obama in 2012 would be bad for the Democratic Party, and bad for the country: http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/FTN_121210.pdf?tag=cbsnewsTwoColUpperPromoArea

But his views tend to move in the right direction over time.

12. Wiki the "Dump Johnson" movement.
They were all saying that at this point about LBJ and after one too many disasters they were all "reassessing" their positions.

Politicians do that. It's like kissing babies. Comes with the territory. Pay it no mind.

There's no reason we have to stick with this incumbent if he's: 1. not electable; and 2. not comfortable with the fundamental principles of the Democratic Party.

NO REASON.

It's the "Democratic Party", not the Obama Party.

10. Yes. I actually think Weiner's more viable than Dean....
... though I like the Dr., I'm not sure he has the requisite telegenicism to make a successful nat'l run.

As opposed to the incumbent... who has the telegenic prerequisites.... but little or nothing else.

Weiner's good, but too much of an... ahem..... "pragmatist" to make a challenge to a sitting president, no matter how lame the sitting duck in question.

Ergo... I'm still a lookin' for a nat'l figure to mount a serious..not a symbolic....challenge.

*Within* the party.

Obama's future actions/inactions, successes ( if there *are* any; we watch; we wait.) and failures in the next few months will determine whether or not he'll be renominated.

From what I've seen , his renomination chances can't be predicted.

His GE chances are a long shot.

But again, it depends.

There IS NOT a 'nat'l figure,' and I'm not into suicide.

We love Weiner's passion.

14. I don't think y'all would be very happy with Weiner's foreign policy
While I take no sides or make any comments on any of this, I nonetheless note:

New liberal fans: Meet Anthony Weiner, ultra-hawkish backer of Israel
The prominent New York Democrat's far-right Zionism might surprise some of his new liberal fans

(...)

"I would argue that in many cases, the New York Times has" anti-Israel bias, Weiner told Amy Goodman in 2006. The idea of any elite, establishment newspaper in New York having an "anti-Israel bias" makes sense only if you consider any criticism of any action taken by the state of Israel to be out of line.

Also in 2006, Weiner introduced legislation banning aid to the Palestinian Authority and barring the Palestinian delegation to the U.N. (and kicking them out of the county). Weiner insisted that the PLO was a terrorist organization. And the delegation, he said, "should start packing their little Palestinian terrorist bags."

19. True. There was also a mini-brouhaha when he ran for Mayor...
.... if i recall correctly, wherein he / his staff had to hurriedly scrub his congressional website of some even nuttier statements he had made about droning non-combatants in the territories.

It's a given here (NYC) that electable politicians are pro-israel. Weiner represents the most fervently pro-Israel congressional district in the USA. One can look at this situation from various perspectives.

It seems logical and likely l that ... freed from the "ball and chain" realities of having to get reeelected from the BKLYN/Queens CD he currently represents... can expect to hear from him more nuanced, less unbalanced, more mature, more realistic public pronouncements on this topic than he has seen fit to make thus far.

Stupid he is not.
