The guy's had 30 years to accrue and wield complete dominion over Egypt, and as far as I can tell, he never hired someone to whisper in his ear, "Remember O Caesar, thou art mortal" at opportune moments. Of course it has to end sometime; but right this very minute? Hard for anyone to hear that life as they know it is over; harder still for someone accustomed to getting his own way in everything.
