I was wrong
Edited on Sun Dec-19-10 12:21 PM by iandhr
I will keep this short and sweet.

I owe the Democrats in congress and the President an apology. I did not think that they would get DADT done. I thought that they would surrender. I was wrong. I am sorry. Nice job Mr. President. And credit where credit is do good job Senator Lieberman.

1. This is a momentous win for this country.
And thank you for acknowledging it as such. It took all of them to get it done.

:fistbump:

2. It's learning experience
glad you enjoyed win. And it wasn't easy.

...maybe the other lesson learned is to ignore the constant negativity of who are pretending to be disgruntely lefties.

Maybe you noticed the inevitable response of those posts that have a mere quick acknowledgement of the repeal of DADT and immediately launch into extended diatribes of all the other things that haven't passed to their satisfaction?

3. I see everyone thanking the Congress for DADT,
and I'm all for it.

But why isn't everyone not thanking them for everything else? It was a huge compromise situation. Surely there was more than DADT to justify all the gratitude.

4. Progress can be slow
Don't feel bad, there were many people on DU who were saying the same thing and I have a feeling that a few of them are a little pissed off deep down inside that it happened.

5. They just learned to use their power. So now that they don't have the house.
Edited on Sun Dec-19-10 12:58 PM by The Wielding Truth
they will have to learn how to use the other 2/3rds to save this country from the crafty, take no prisoners, greedsters. They need the strong support of us to continue. Titanic is turning away from the iceberg or it is melting. Anyway we are moving in the correct direction.

Wait. The house has been doing a great job. They have fought for everything only to see it whittled down or cut out by the re-publicans. I want to give them their due. I hope to see them back in 2 years!

7. You were not alone!!!!
I never thought he would fail at anything he set forth in his Campaign promises. Our President may not be able to please all of the people all of the time ,but he sure as Hell can please some of the people some of the time. Our President may not get the legislation just the way we want it, but we get the best deal he can win votes for.

Many want our President to stand on Party Principles. A straight Democratic Agenda. No matter if we had seventy Senators in the Senate it would not fly. He is a Democratic President who also Governs republicans whether we like it or not, they are a part of this country. And if our President were to push only the Democratic Agenda through legislation, He would be as Dubya/Shooter. Only helping himself.

We want our President to be fair. We asked he move us forward to changing America. This he is doing. With what he has to work with. Including opposition to his own Party.Yes after Dubya/Shooter we were so ANGRY,we wanted to bum rush the republicans. But we should remember what it felt like to get bum rushed. Wasn't pretty. If we are to expect CHANGE in Washington D.C., we first must CHANGE ourselves.
We cannot do as they do and say we are the Party of Difference. No bum Rushing!!!!

8. Spot on! Unlike Junior he is trying to govern all Americans
and it must be so difficult but that is change.

I think the next two years will blow up in the Republicans face, it is going to be very ugly.

9. well
ugliness is as ugliness does. They think that the repugs are going to have a battle in the House because of Tea Party!!!This is a joke. They will perform for the public like circus animal acts (except animal acts have character) and give us a show!!! They have already been paired up with lobbyist as their staff members. And they were elected under the republican ticket!!!!Make no MISTAKE THE TEA PARTY IS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!!!!!!!! No matter what they choose to call themselves.

10. I Had My Doubts. But I'm Not Apologizing.

Whatever doubts I had about the the repeal of DADT were supported by the hyper-appeasing actions of this White House---the ridiculous mindset that Republicans are reasonable, and that if you just give in to them one more time, if you just give them one more chance to beat the crap out of you (while publicly humiliating and disavowing your own political base), things will work out just dandy. I'm rejoicing at the DADT outcome, but my memory of the recent past hasn't been erased.

And fuck Joe Lieberman, by the way.

11. I am in the exact same position
I also did not believe Republicans would allow this to come to pass...It will blow my mind now if they block the START Treaty while giving in to repeal of DADT...but that appears to be what is happening...
