So my Ron-Paulitarian leaning dad got on disability...
To be fair, I don't think he ever actually voted Rethug. He rather belongs to the largest political block: Non voters. Not registered. And I thought it is for the best of all involved if I don't talk him into registering. But he did voice support for Republicans before, especially Ron and liked to talk about how too much socialism is not good. Oh well. He is a nice guy in principle. He is actually capable of grapsing the irony of it. He now tells all of his Redneck buddies how much he likes his Obama-money.

1. "Ron-Paulitarian"
Edited on Sun Dec-19-10 04:33 PM by Strelnikov_
Love it.

Def. Libertarians who believe in limited government with the exception of the government programs they are personally benefiting from. Libertarians who believe government should not be involved in regulating behavior, unless it is a behavior one has a hard-on over, in which case said behavior should be outlawed.

4. Many self described libertarian dudes I know do not see the inconsistency of being anti-choice
I guess they must not see women as full human beings deserving of the same liberty they think men should enjoy.

8. So? Plenty are not.
And no one describing themselves as libertarian should be anti-choice.

10. Anti-Choice Libertarians generally argue that a fetus is an individual with a right to life.
Edited on Sun Dec-19-10 05:32 PM by Odin2005
You can't really argue with it because it's based on feeling, not logic. I know, I've tried. I end up getting really uncomfortable because I myself was born premature and I am a bit squeamish about abortion on the gut level and so I just try to avoid arguments about it.

It has nothing to do with hating women, that's the Fundies that do that.

11. Oh believe me I've met some seriously misogynistic so-called libertarian dudes
One guy told me that giving women the right to vote was a mistake because we ladies vote for all kinds of social programs and government spending. I was like "whaa...?" So I did some googling and learned this theory has many proponents including Professor John Lott, who is widely regarded as a libertarian intellectual.

2. Have been running into some of those folks; they're exactly like your dad. Also . . .
noticed recently that amongst all of the more or less popular medium-to-low brow books for sale in iTunes downloads is a substantial selection of Ayn Rand. Nothing comparable from the Left there, say, with Anthem also offer Stranger in a Strange Land. Or with LeHaye's Left Behind stuff also offer Kazantzakis' Last Temptation of Christ. Maybe that stuff just doesn't exist in mp3 yet?

9. Most Libertarians I know don't have a problem with Disability Assistance.
They consider it one of the few legitimate forms of public assistance. It's aid to the non-disabled, non-elderly poor that they tend to hate.

12. You know some way nicer libertarians than I do.
The ones I know want no public assistance to anyone, period. If you are sick or disabled you should turn to your family or charity.

16. Your average right-wingers on the street...
... are only against "big government programs" that aren't for them. Medicare and Social Security? Not so bad. Programs to help other people? Evil socialism.
