Should We Have A "GOP Watch" Forum That Focuses On Holding Republicans Accountable? |
|
This site is called Democratic Underground. Yet, it seems like most of the posts are dedicated toward trashing Democrats, or repeating threads and narratives designed to increase spread dissent among Democrats and their supporters. Statements of prominent progressives are only kicked, and re-kicked, if they attack leading Democrats. However, if they say something that is supportive of Democrats, then the thread becomes buried. For example, Paul Krugman's arguments and statements supporting HCR were quickly buried, while his statements that are critical of Democrats get kicked and re-kicked.
I remember when I first started falling this board, much of the discussion was devoted toward calling out Republicans, and standing strong against the media narrative that is designed to undermine and attack Democrats. Now, GD is filled with posts designed to skirt around the rules while attacking Democrats. Since folks can't advocate for third parties like the Green Party, let alone the Republican party, you now have folks repeatedly announcing that they will stay home at the upcoming election.
My proposal is to have a post that focuses on actions of Republicans. We can call it GOP Watch. If folks want to post anti-Democratic attacks and narratives under the guise of holding Democrats accountable, then they can continue to do so in GD. But, in the GOP Watch forum, we can finally have a forum for those of us who do not want to give Republicans a free pass.
I know some folks will protest and say that there is nothing wrong with holding Democrats who are really closet Republicans accountable. Well, then there is GD for these types of posts. But what about an actual forum that focuses on the actions and statements of Republicans. For example, lets call them out for the deficit hypocrisy. Lets call them out for their opposition to START treaty. Lets call them out for their denial of climate change. Lets call them out for their hypocrisy on Medicare and Social Security.
The corporate media only gives liberals and progressives a microphone if they dutifully attack Democrats. Remember Jane Hamsher on Fox News with Grover Norquist? We should have a forum where we can focus on and rightfully bash on Republicans.

3. it would be better if we just had an accountability forum on BOTH |
|
I was thinking that for the last couple of weeks. I have started watching my congresscritter, following his tweets, etc., because quite frankly I WANT to be the eyes over his shoulder and the thorn in his side. I want him to KNOW he's being watched and will be called on on ANY bullshit he's pulling.
I think in all fairness people should be doing the same with their congresscritters. This is a dangerous time, and these people should be hearing from more and more of their constituents. They should be put on notice.
ALL of them.

9. Corporate Media Focuses On Holding Democrats "Accountable" - Heard of Fox News? |
|
We have billions of dollars being spent on holding "Democrats accountable" with Fox News identified both real and imagined failures of the Democrats. Heck, even if you are a progressive like Jane Hamsher of Firedog Lake or even Dennis Kucinich, Fox News will give you a forum to attack Democrats.
Indeed, Republicans and right wingers will fund "progressives" who attack Democrats from the left such as "Latinos for Reform" who ran ads against Harry Reid urging Hispanics not to vote for him in order to hold him "accountable" for Democratic failures to pass immigration reform over Republican opposition.
Finally, you have DU and posters like Better Believe It who are tireless in their efforts to hold Democrats accountable.
So, my proposal is that we have a forum that focuses on holding Republicans accountable. It would be nice to find a forum that does so. Yes, I am pro-Democratic, and anti-Republican. I believe that Republicans, the corporate media, and the corporations that fund them both are a threat to our system of Government, particularly post-Citizens United. Thus, it would be nice to have some forum where Republicans are held accountable in addition the vast myriad of media that is arrayed to attack Democrats and hold them "accountable."

unless it is good...then somebody else gets credit.

4. What is the point of trying to hold the GOP responsible when GOP voters don't care? |

5. We should have ALL KINDS of "GOP Watch" mechanisms all over everywhere. |

As many as they have on our side - times 100. EVERYWHERE any of of those miserable bastards turns there should be something in their face or in their way. No peace.
The more the better. In all shapes, sizes, forms, and levels of outrage. ALL punching outwards. NOT back inwards toward ourselves. Look - we already have more than enough of that. As Dems we tend to specialize in that anyway. And we have willing and ready help from all our friends in the media. Every "Both sides! Both sides!" hyperventilation is intrinsically designed to show Dems are every bit as bad as republi-CONS, if not somehow worse. It's generated and pushed by republi-CONS hoping to distract and diminish their own culpability. How better to minimize your own guilt and criminality and amorality than to spread it around all over the place so it appears - "well, shit, everybody does it, that's just the way it is." Kinda hard to advocate for seeking justice or recompense for damages perpetrated when you're operating under this kind of groupthink.
We should be looking for any and all ways to puncture the balloon of the vast wrong-wing media machinery. From every direction.

Some websites have threads titled 'The GOP Hall of Shame' and 'The GOP: A Criminal Enterprise' to encompass years of hypocrisy, crimes and bigotry. Some websites cover just to their sex crimes.

10. You could try asking in the "Ask the Admins" forum. |
|
But I believe a similar idea was already vetoed.

11. Expecting a Republican to be accountable is like expecting the dog to not lick his balls. |
