7. May I sing this song for you?!1
Annie LENNOX sang it on t.v. a morning. It’s on her album “A Christmas Cornucopia.” It’s in the O Holy Night category.

“See Amid the Winter’s Snow”
Words: Edward Caswall, in Easy Hymn Tunes…Adapted for Catholic Schools, 1851, and later in Caswall’s Masque of Mary, 1858.

Music: Humility (Goss), John Goss, 1871

See amid the winter’s snow,
Born for us on earth below,
See, the gentle Lamb appears,
Promised from eternal years.

Refrain

Hail that ever blessèd morn,
Hail redemption’s happy dawn,
Sing through all Jerusalem:
Christ is born in Bethlehem.

Lo, within a manger lies
He Who built the starry skies;
He Who, thronèd in height sublime,
Sits amid the cherubim.

Refrain

Say, you holy shepherds, say,
Tell your joyful news today.
Why have you now left your sheep
On the lonely mountain steep?

Refrain

“As we watched at dead of night,
Lo, we saw a wondrous light;
Angels singing ‘Peace on earth’
Told us of the Savior’s birth.”

Refrain

Sacred Infant, all divine,
What a tender love was Thine,
Thus to come from highest bliss
Down to such a world as this.

Refrain

Teach, O teach us, holy Child,
By Thy face so meek and mild,
Teach us to resemble Thee,
In Thy sweet humility.

Refrain

11. Does the dream act discourage or encourage illegal immigration?
I don't see how this fixes anything. It just creates different classes and status within the same family leaving losers and winners and it encourages the original sin of illegal immigration.

15. It creates more kids in limbo.
Personally I would be pissed if I found out my parents have turned me into someone without a country. What kind of way is this to raise kids, dependent on deception, lying, and breaking the laws? It's a disgrace.

14. It's not open ended. This is a one time offer to a specifically define group. Therefore, it's not
a complete solution and is not intended as one.

16. Ronald Reagan's amnesty program only created more illegal immigration.
Edited on Sun Dec-19-10 10:43 PM by dkf
The assumption that you can't deport all the illegal immigrants only furthers it and I am sure people who believe in the dream act don't think this is the last effort to legalize people here illegally. It will be seen as just the start to further efforts.

Next there will be complaints that it isn't fair that people must pay expensive college tuitions and that it is discrimination against the poor.

Then it will be unfair that the special needs kids can't qualify to go to college.

Then it will be unfair to break up families and siblings of people here legally.

17. Organized labor and the Progressive Caucus support the DREAM Act and comprehensive immigration
reform, precisely because they know that indeed we can't (and don't want to be a society that does) deport 11 million people. Leaving a large bloc of exploitable people puts downward pressure on everyone's wages. If we can't deport them and don't want millions of exploitable workers around indefinitely (a repub dream come true, hence their bogus "attrition through enforcement" strategy), labor and progressives in congress know that they best solution is to bring them out from the shadows so that they are legal and protected by the law.

You're right that many of us who believe in the DREAM Act don't think this is the last effort to legalize people here illegally but just the start of further efforts. None of the possible courses of action is perfect. Mass deportations will not happen (unless the tea party takes power perhaps). The status quo leaves too many exploitable workers here indefinitely. The path to citizenship alternative is not perfect, but is the one endorsed by organized labor and the Progressive Caucus and for good reason.

18. How are poor Americans supposed to cope with a huge supply of lower end labor?
Edited on Sun Dec-19-10 11:24 PM by dkf
Say what you will, getting a job is a competition. The more people there are the less your chances are of getting that job.

I have been against illegal immigration specifically because of it's effect on less fortunate Americans. I see nothing good in legalizing and expanding the pool of workers when so many are suffering.

Full employment is the only thing that pushes wages upward. What we are doing to our poor people who have no other country to go to is shameful.
