You know, we gays know what people that hate us say about us. |
|
So the FR cut and pastes are really not necessary.

1. Yes, I do agree. This needed to be pointed out. |

2. Some of us find it hard to believe that other Humans can be so cruel and ignorant. |
|
Showing bigots and other assorted Haters (Gay, Blacks or whatever) tends to bring the people here closer together to fight these Sons-a-Bitches.
Try not to take our slight insensitivity as anything personal.

3. That is not why posters are posting those things |
|
Ruggerson discussed it here... http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x37982... the reaction by RW'ers is relevant. The meltdown by Jim Robinson and the populace at FR is relevant. Knowing who we are fighting and what they are about is very important.

4. "You are ignoring the author of this thread" |

Anyway, I can see both sides of this coin (well, not literally, but hey). I do tend to (privately) question the motives sometimes of folks who post long-winded FR bullshit here, but as BlueJazz mentions above, if I didn't see it I might not even believe it.
Bear with me...I'm slow.

ruggerson (1000+ posts) Sun Dec-19-10 12:40 AM Original message The reason the death of DADT shakes straight, rightwing men to their very core is because it destroys the myth that they have long perpetuated about gay men: that they are all lisping, immoral, weak and cowardly. This myth and other convenient stereotypes have long served as their bulwark against attacks on their heterosexist, patriarchal grip on power in this country.
Psychologically, the destruction of this myth has long term, profound consequences for the hierarchy of dominance in this nation of ours - all of them healthy and all of them good for both women in general and gay men specifically.
Today is far more powerful than if 15% of the NFL all came out of the closet at once. Or if all the gay movie stars suddenly had the urge to be publicly honest about who they are.
It's far more powerful because that aging, rightwing marine sitting on his couch in southern Indiana never was a football player or a movie star.
But he was a marine once and that identification has been the single, most powerful tool to enable him to self justify his rank prejudices and aggressive opposition to positive, generational growth and change.
The destruction of Don't Ask Don't Tell takes the mask off. And what is left is the emperor with no clothes, clutching his Bud light and his remote control, suddenly very, very angry, very insecure and very unsure about his position of dominance in a new America.

I spent 8 years in the military with people from everywhere and from every sort of background, and I can first-hand confirm that my "kweer" (their description) brothers were every bit as tough anyone on the ground (and had better taste in music).

9. All you say is sooo true! Some people may never learn and continue |
|
to hide their prejudice behind "patriotism" and "respect for the military," but it is because they do not want to accept that their experience as military is gone. ..that today's military is not as it was 40 or 50 years ago, and that it will never be again!
To all gay people in this forum: I am proud of being on your side, and I hope the repeal of DADT is only another step towards full equal rights, including civil unions, marriage, an legal adoptions for gay people.

5. On the contrary, I would say that remembering who the enemy is is always necessary. |
|
It helps us remember who our friends are, as well.

but if the posts conform to DU's rules, then they're allowed to be posted here, and others may want to discuss them even if you don't.

But while you and I may know what they say about us, many others who believe in fairness and equality may not spend the time to seek out and expose what the True Christians™ say about us, while spreading their "Christian Love™" all over the place.
Flame me if you must, I really don't care.
