Saudi prince Talal warns of uprising threat
Prince Talal bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud told BBC Arabic that "anything could happen" if King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz did not proceed with a program of political transformation.

"King Abdullah ... is the only person who can carry out these reforms," the prince told the broadcaster.

"On his departure, may that be in many years to come, latent trouble will surface and I have warned of this on many occasions. We need to resolve the problems in his lifetime," the prince added.

Talal added that if Saudi authorities "don't give more concern to the demands of the people, anything could happen in this country".

Pepto bismol, invest in pepto bismol, especially if you are at Foggy bottom, or Tel Aviv.

1. The same Prince Talal bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud who owns a 7% stake in Fox? With editorial control?
Just thought I'd get it out there, again. Never know who's lurking and in need of some education on who REALLY controls their news source.

3. Those lurkers didn't put it together when Bush held hands with the Saudi King
and tiptoed through the tulips with the leader of the nation that spawned the 9-11 terrorists.

8. The Great Unrest is now on the doorstep of Saudi Arabia.
It's in Bahrain.

The House of Saud should worry...greatly.

10. What happens to the Saudi royal family's US-centered wealth if there's a revolution?
Edited on Thu Feb-17-11 10:45 PM by Marr
Generally I know dictators are allowed to make off with their booty, but that is a truly colossal amount of booty, and a lot of it is tied up in minority stakes of US infrastructure. There's a lot of wealth to be retrieved there.

13. Isn't Saudi Arabia already a pretty strict Islamic nation?
Ideally, it would be nice to see a revolution in which the reformists took control. But not really holding my breath on that one

14. You have not seen anything yet
that is one of the complaints, that the family has gotten ahem... too liberal.

16. The religious police are used to keep order amongst the proles.
From what I understand, the House of Saud isn't even Arab, they were a Berber tribe, in the right place at the right time to be selected by the British to run the country.

They've always been "too liberal" for Islamists. The stories of the HoS boys and girls boarding their private jets and shedding traditional dress for western party gear, en route to foreign locales are legendary. Stories of the exploits of the individual princes are far more entertaining - or disturbing, depending on your tolerance. However, I have known a few of them in my day, from various ME countries, and they're a wild bunch with wayyyyy too much money.

I have no problem being corrected if wrong... it is what I've heard and, to an extent, experienced.
