Breaking on Boston.com: Sen. Brown (R-MA) to Support NEW START treaty
http://www.boston.com/

Help me out here; I haven't been following this too closely, and the headline isn't a link yet. What is the "New" START treaty? Is it the one McConnell is trying to kill, or a whole new document?

Thanks.

2. Obama and the Senate Democrats should make good use of him for the next two years
while Brown acts like he's a progressive to get reelected in Massachusetts, in a state where Obama will poll well.

3. AFAIK the Reagan era treaties were the "START" treaties
so this latest treaty is known as the the "New START" treaty to distinguish it from the those ones.

4. The current START Treaty expired over a year ago; this is the "New" version that the President
signed with Medvedev last year and needs to be ratified by the Senate. It needs a two thirds vote. McConnell, Kyl and McCain are leading the republicans trying to kill it.

5. Good to hear. A Treaty requires 67 votes...

6. The Republicans are using
all of their dirty stalling techniques to stop this bill and embarrass President Obama.

7. If he wants to be re-elected he should break with his party publicly more often.

9. I hope that you will follow
the NEW START treaty more closely. Senator John Kerry is performing valiantly, and has maintained remarkable composure in his effort to drive this treaty to passage. Minority leader Mitch McConnell, and a host of other right wing nuts in the GOP, have been lying through their teeth, during the debate, and they are determined to delay, if not stop passage of the treaty.
