If we had a draft

Would Iraq and/or Afghanistan have been invaded?
If so would we still be in Iraq and Afghanistan?

The elimination of the draft seems to be a brilliant move by the powers that be.
Now they have their publicly funded corporate military with little to no descent.

1. Yes nothing would have changed
because the people who created the problems don't care what the American public wants.

2. My guess is, no, we would not have invaded and occupied
either country. We sure as hell would have still been there if we did.

3. As someone who was AGAINST the draft..........
at the time, I will say that the BEST argument that I heard against eliminating it was this very one. With an all volunteer force, the general public had no skin in the game ergo, it would be easier for the PTB to indulge in military intervention.

5. The US does have a draft.
It is just done by economics.

6. Give the public a casus belli they can rally behind
and they'll support a war, draft or no.

7. Of course, why wouldn't we? Those in power will keep their kids out either way.
And Americans are sold on the idea of war as a Super Bowl where our kids go to gain glory and fight for America and nonsense like that.

This nation won't lose it's love affair with wars until enemy troops burn Main Street and slaughter and rape the graduating class of Smallville High. Our media won't let us see a real war until that happens.

9. If it were up to Charlie Rangel,

we would have a draft. I once confronted my gungho under-age-42 Republican never-served-a-day-in-his-life-in-the-military supervisor who is always yakking about how we need more boots on the ground in Afghanistan with Rangel's H.R.4752. Being an honorably discharged Vietnam veteran myself, I felt I had a right to do that. Not too surprisingly, he didn't have much to say by way of reply. I think he felt his chemical engineering degree rendered him too bright to get his brains splattered all over some middle eastern desert. Of course, Pat Tillman had a degree too (Tillman majored in marketing at Arizona State University and graduated in three and a half years with a 3.84 GPA.), but then Pat Tillman had guts - not that it helped him much when he got fragged in Iraq on Cheney's orders.
