Where are they now? Linda Tripp? Richard Perle? Paula Jones?

How can a person be such a part of national attention and then go hide?

And where's Monica Lewinsky?

8. Linda Tripp runs a Christmas store in Virginia
Can you imagine seeing that face twinkling over a stack of santas and snowmen?

2. Good question. I've often wondered how Lewinsky could disappear literally
while Clinton can't go a week without having her thrown up in his face.

It must be true that there is a Repukewhoreland where she Rove, Rumsfeld and the like all live in pods or something.

3. It looks like Ms. Lewinsky made over $2 million in her post scandal career
She then moved to England where she still lives.

From Wikipedia:

By 2005, Lewinsky found that she could not escape the spotlight in the U.S., with both her professional and personal life difficult.<16> She stopped selling her handbag line<22> and moved to London.<16> In December 2006, Lewinsky graduated with a master's degree in social psychology from the London School of Economics<34> where she had been studying since September 2005.<35> Her thesis was titled “In Search of the Impartial Juror: An Exploration of the Third-person effect and Pre-Trial Publicity”. She has since tried to avoid publicity.<16>

I don't blame Monica for the downfall of Bill Clinton. I blame hypocritical republicans.

5. Republicon Senators gave a Standing O to their diaper-sex-with-hookers crony
Just about the time they finished tut-tutting Clinton.

Republicons are the very embodiment of moral relativity & hypocrisy. It would be funny if Chickenhawk Republicons weren't so damned determined to milk & bilk America of all it's money, and then make the nation FAIL.

7. I do blame Monica.
Not for the downfall, but it's just wrong to seduce the President of the United States and then gossip about it. She was really, really stupid and selfish.

Yes, yes, I know.....he also had a responsibility to keep it in his pants. They were both very wrong.

10. For sure, Bill screwed up, but that wasn't Monica's first seduction of a
married man. I've always felt that there was a lot more going on than we were led to believe. Maybe is wasn't a conspiracy to start with, but, come on, who sends their mother a dress with that kind of stain on it and tells her to keep it without cleaning it?

13. Sorry, it was completely wrong for both, but far more for Clinton
In the first place, I question why she thought that flashing her underwear at the President wouldn't be an immediate ticket back home. It is aberrant behavior and would likely not have been condoned in most companies.

But, if you are going to assign blame Clinton was in his late 40s or 50s and she was 20, he as POTUS and she was a college student. He was the married one, who violated his vow.

Would you really think someone so immature and flaky that she flashed the President would be a likely candidate to keep their relationship quiet? It was VERY risky behavior on his part - and if you want to speak of stupid and selfish - Bill was far more than she was.

4. Interesting note on Lewinsky: Her mother & father divorced & mom married R Peter Straus.
Edited on Tue Dec-21-10 04:18 AM by Hannah Bell
R Peter = son of Nathan Straus Jr. (family which owned Macy's for about 100 years, & which through tight extended family/marriage relationships connected to a lot of other retail businesses).

Straus Jr's father was a funder of the Zionist cause & a personal friend of Otto Frank (father of Anne). Also involved in US politics, as were many family members, including the first Jewish cabinet secretary (Otto Straus, under Teddy Roosevelt, sec of commerce/labor).

Farrar, Straus & Giroux was also a family business. That branch married into the Guggenheim family; the father was an exec at ASARCO (Aluminum, Guggenheim-owned company founded by William Rockefeller); the son started the publishing firm and married a Rheingold (brewing).

R Peter Straus's first wife was a Sulzberger, the great-neice of Arthur Hays Sulzberger (publisher of the NYT) & a descendant of one of the founders of the NY stock exchange.

In other words, Lewinsky lives in the Republic of Money.

9. haven't looked into the father's remarriage; i recognized the name in the case of the mother's.

but those kind of connections (the fact that the family runs in those kind of circles) make me wonder even more about the lewinsky story.

also about the class of people who get selected as interns. seems like the kind of jobs that used to be filled by hard-working climbers from the provinces are now filled by trust fund kids. and some of them are likely spies for the family/gang interests.

11. You cannot live in DC on an intern's stipend.
You either live with friends of your family, family, or your family pays for your room and board.

Like Chandra Levy or Monica did.

Or you do what Jessica Cutler (the Washingtonienne) did, and have sugar daddies.

Yes, there are interns piled up in group houses, but even those, combined with commuting costs, and other costs of living in DC, are stretched thin.

12. i'm not understanding your point. cost of living in DC is reportedly 81% higher than US average;
Edited on Tue Dec-21-10 02:13 PM by Hannah Bell
average 2-bdroom apartment about $1300. four people = $325 each, a cost lots of middle-class families pay when their kids go to college.

i think lots of "average" kids would be willing to put up with sharing bedrooms for the opportunity to intern at the white house.
