9/11 Responder's Bill Passage & the "relentless TV advocacy by Jon Stewart of The Daily Show"
Edited on Tue Dec-21-10 09:24 AM by kpete
* It's all because of indefatigable investigative reporter Jon Stewart: This, from a New York Daily News editorial demanding that senators back the 9/11 health bill, doesn't reflect particularly well on the American media:

The U.S. Senate owes Ground Zero responders an immediate vote on the Zadroga health bill

............................

But that's an enormous amount to get done between now and the end of the year, when the lame-duck session expires and takes with it all hope for passage. Opponents will surely try to run out the clock. They must be stopped.

Senators, Republicans and Democrats alike, owe Ground Zero responders an immediate up-or-down vote on whether the U.S. will come through with health care and compensation for the thousands who were sickened by service on and around The Pile.

And America finally appears to be waking up to the fact that the country's honor is at stake. Thanks in large part to relentless television advocacy by Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show," the 9/11 bill has risen up the agenda.

Washington Post political writer Greg Sargent described the dynamic with a story headlined: "Conservatives growing uncomfortable with GOP blockade of 9/11 health bill."

2. Yeah . . . like have real people discuss an issue that concerns them,
instead of the letting the never-ending line of TV gasbags do it, is such a novel idea. Thanks, Jon.

6. Good on Jon -
for keeping this in the eye of the public.

That the GOPers have been holding this back is obscene.
