6. 7.4 is slightly beyond medium? Wow. How big are the quakes where YOU live?
I've been in all of the big So Cal earthquakes since 1971 and I gotta tell ya, we don't consider 7.3 to be "slightly beyond medium". That kind of description might follow a 5.0.

4. Okay, I'll say it
think there's a link between this and the lunar eclipse? I personally think eclipses are like magnetic 'switches' that effect the earth...

Can the Moon Cause Earthquakes?
John Roach
National Geographic News

May 23, 2005
Coast dwellers are accustomed to the daily rhythm of the tides, which are primarily lulled in and out by the gentle gravitational tug of the moon. Some scientists wonder whether the moon's tugging may also influence earthquake activity.

"The same force that raises the 'tides' in the ocean also raises tides in the crust," said Geoff Chester, an astronomer and public affairs officer with the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C. ..cont'd

The Moon, Earth Tides and Earthquake Forecasting

According to a AAAS press release:

"Tidal forces may have contributed to triggering the devastating magnitude 9.0 Sumatra earthquake of 2004 and other large earthquakes in the region. Gravitational pull from the Sun and the Moon not only is responsible for ocean tides but also creates Earth tides, slight motions of the solid Earth (bulges and dips in the earth's crust and upper mantle) that can lead to stress buildup (or stress relief) along faults."

9. How exactly does earth's shadow on the moon cause earthquakes?
None of your links address the question.

11. sun/moon lineup puts greater grav on earth, more extreme tides
both of which can cause earthquakes. Just like a fly crawling on the skin of an orange can cause it to split open and leak juice all over the floor. Oh, almost forgot. AND it can cause the poles to shift!

14. Lunar Eclipses always occur on a full moon, hence the connection.

15. Yes, that is when the sun/moon/earth are lined up so shadow may cross
Rather like solar eclipses occur on new moon, the other time they are lined up so shadow may cross.

16. And for fuck's sake, for the last time: NASA DID NOT BOMB THE MOON.
Which means the non-bombing of the moon could not have caused "a cascade of earthquakes".

Your last link is to the comments section of a blog from Haiti, btw.

Quelle surprise. :eyes:
