Unleashing Leviticus: Religious Right Rants Over Change In Military’s DADT Policy
Source: The Wall of Separation The official blog of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
By Rob Boston.

On Saturday, the U.S. Senate voted to repeal the so-called “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy that banned openly gay and lesbian Americans from serving in the armed forces. The Religious Right is not pleased.

To hear Religious Right leaders tell it, the end is nigh. How soon before the North Koreans come rolling down Pennsylvania Avenue?

“Today is a tragic day for our armed forces,” wailed Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council. “The American military exists for only one purpose – to fight and win wars. Yet it has now been hijacked and turned into a tool for imposing on the country a radical social agenda. This may advance the cause of reshaping social attitudes regarding human sexuality, but it will only do harm to the military’s ability to fulfill its mission.”

Yadda, yadda. Keep on blathering, guys. Honestly, you remind me of the bigots who threw a fit in 1948 when President Harry Truman issued an executive order integrating the armed forces. It was “social engineering”! The soldiers won’t like it. The nation wasn’t ready for this. It will break down morale on the front lines. And on and on.

More reasons (as if we needed more) to keep the Republicans and their theocratic allies from increasing their power in government.

1. Generally, if the religious right doesn't like it, it was the right thing to do.

11. "To hold a Republican hate meeting in a cafeteria would be an abomination EVEN unto GOD."
I'm sure that's in there somewhere.

5. I'm OK with it anyway
If the military gets full of gays who can't fight, and they spend all the time staring at each other, that's fine with me. Our military doesn't do much to defend the country anyway. Or do you think what they are doing does any good? We would be better off if they all got regular jobs. We can defend the country with the National Guard, the Coast Guard and the FBI.

9. What would prevent a gay soldier from fighting?
"If the military gets full of gays who can't fight...?

Specifically what would prevent a gay soldier from fighting that simultaneously doesn't prevent a straight soldier from fighting?

13. But, but, I thought Leviticus was part of the "OLD" testament.
Edited on Tue Dec-21-10 03:33 PM by Xicano
Don't christians always say the old testament isn't their book when someone points out all the atrocities the old testament justifies?

So which is it? Do they prescribe to the whole bible, or just the new testament?

Or do they just flip flop whenever its convenient?
