Target.... Thought it was a "Blue" Business.
I remember a few years ago when a website listed all the stores that where democratic in leaning and Target was on it

Target Continues To Make The Political Donations They Had Previously Apologized For Making

This past fall, mega-retailer Target caught a heap of bad publicity when it was revealed that they had made campaign donations in support of then-Minnesota gubernatorial hopeful Tom Emmer, whose hostility to the LGBT community began "with opposition to same-sex marriage and runs through to wholesale denial of equal rights and alliances with organizations whose takes on the gay community neatly align with those Ugandan madmen." Target CEO Greg Steinhafel was forced to make an apology, and promised to begin a "review process for future political donations."

1. Target is a huge union-buster as well. I have no idea why it gets a pass from some.

2. Because Walfart is far far worse and Target still donates to Dems and to Charities.

Target has its bad areas but at least they actually donate to some good things. They were better in the past though. Blame the CEO.

7. A couple of years back some DUer posted
A link to a leaked Target employee trainee video -- It was the most jaw-dropping, hate-filled anti-union propaganda I'd ever seen...

I don't know if the video is still around -- Target scrubbed it from just about every site and blog they could find...

4. It used to be
when it was owned by Dayton-Hudson.

Then they sold off the company and it became a corporate asshole like all of the rest.

6. Dayton Hudson did not sell off Target it changed its name to Target
Edited on Tue Dec-21-10 09:40 PM by dflprincess
as that was the one brand they had most recognized nationally.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_Corporation

Target Corporation (simply known as Target) is an American retailing company that was founded in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1902 as the Dayton Dry Goods Company. In 1962, the company opened its first Target store in nearby Roseville. Target grew and eventually became the largest division of Dayton Hudson Corporation, culminating in the company changing its name to Target Corporation in 2000. As of May 2010, the company has opened stores in every state except Vermont, operating as Target or SuperTarget.

The company probably started to go down hill when the Daytons ended their direct involvement with it.

11. I didn't mean they sold Target
I meant the Dayton family sold off their interest in the company.

18. Yes, I agree with you.
The funny thing is most the Daytons were Republicans - but "old school" Republicans like former Gov. Elmer L. Andersen who thought they did have a responsibility to the commons good.

Mark Dayton tells a story about one of his "more conservative" (Mark's words) cousins complaining about paying more taxes and his (Mark's) dad telling the cousin to be happy he's paying more because that means he's doing better.

8. i stopped shopping at target when they introduced the grocery sections
like, the serious grocery sections. meat and produce and everything you can find in a grocery store.

i didn't shop there much before that, but living in minnesota, it was pretty convenient to just go there sometimes.

But the grocery section equals pure union busting. No thanks. I'll pay another couple of bucks and support my class...

9. From a Buy Blue printout I have from - egads - 2005...
Edited on Tue Dec-21-10 11:04 PM by WorseBeforeBetter
Target is rated as 17% "Dark Red" and donated over $300K to Republicans/regressives. In contrast, Costo Wholesale Corporation is rated 99% "Dark Blue" and donated over $300K to Democrats/progressives. I haven't looked into what current rankings are.

Not sure why so many think Target is blue; probably because it's not Walmart.

16. Because it used to give heavily to the Arts and animal causes. It also
used to divide up the amount that it gave fairly decently between red and blue but not so much anymore. They also used to give big to education.

19. Bingo. Walmart isn't allowed in Chicago, but Target is.
My husband had to take a job at target a few years ago and they were very clear on their stances. Both Target and Best Buy inlude training on how awful unions are.
