1. Miscellaneous scattered outages, apparently... |
|
Kind of like rolling blackouts. I was DU deprived for a few hours this afternoon. Kid Sis in Denver had problems later in the day.

4. I'm on a proxy server....mine has been out seven and a half hours! |
|
Honest to God I knew that this was going to be OK with a little time but I did GET THE MESSAGE of what countries have experienced of late with loss of the internet. HOW would we ever know what's going on? I used the first couple of hours to explore....firedoglake had some info on the seige of the WI capitol bldg. Over all coverage was very spotty and incomplete...I surely missed DU!

6. Humongus storm moved through here, we were without power most of the day. |
|
Then the power came back on and DU was broken! I had to actually speak to my family. Played guitar for the first time for my daughter's new baby.

7. Skinner's thread, which explains it: |
|
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x530009I'm on a proxy server, too, thanks to my fellow DUers, but still can't do certain things here. At least I was finally able to log in... :( :hi:

He was able to access DU, off and on, but that was my only successful try, until I tried the proxy server posted in the DU Panic Room. I still can't do everything, but I'm not sure what, yet... :hi: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DUPanicRoom/message/2742

9. I am on using the DU.net (rather than .com) entry - been having issues for hours. |
|
I was back in at about 9:45, then it died at about 10 - then I remembered Skinner's suggestion of going in under .org or .net.
Very weird....

15. they're not answering echo requests (pings), but the site is up |
|
That is, from a network perspective, they seem to be completely up--the IP's are reachable. So far as I can see, the problem is strictly DNS.
Are you running Windows XP, by chance? I believe telnet is disabled by default on Win7 machines, but if you "telnet democraticunderground.org 80 <enter>", or download nmap or another utility, you should see port 80 open on 216.158.28.198.
Also, if you have the luxury of setting your DNS servers, try 4.2.2.2, and 8.8.8.8. They're not both working universally, but updates do seem to be seeping in and propagating.
