In other words, if you don't want to sign up for a google email account,
(or link an existing google email acct to youtube) you can kiss your youtube account good-bye.

If you do not want to link this YouTube account, you can sign out here."

1. I don't have a google e-mail account . . . so . . .
I just checked to see if I could get into the YouTube account I have---which I don't use, BTW---and, no problemo . . . thus far, anyway.

3. That's interesting.
It started asking if I wanted to link it (via interrupt page)several months ago,
but provided a link allowing me to go on to my account without doing so.
That is, until tonight.

2. I used my existing e-mail address, but this annoyed the hell out of me, too.
I've had an account on YouTube since 2006. I don't think you have to have a new e-mail account, since I used the one I already have, but then I'm not that astute when it comes to these things. x(

12. I assure you that the datamining and profiling that Google does with your regular account...
...will not be affected in any way by your gmail account if it remains unused.

I personally use Gmail and YouTube linked (have had a Gmail account since it launched).

I personally search for the most absurd random shit every few days just to fuck the profiler up.

Right now it thinks I like "SHAYTARDS." I'm ashamed to admit the other sick and twisted stuff it has suggested to me due to my messing with it.

You have to give them a phone number - if not a mobile phone, then a phone with voicemail.

25. Try it
Chances are if you're in the U.S. they'll ask for a cellphone number. Best way around this is to use a throwaway cellphone - or use a proxy in a country/area where they don't ask for a phone number.

29. Google account =/= Gmail app
Edited on Tue Mar-01-11 02:20 PM by Ignis
You can have a Google account without using Gmail.

Again, from the source:
https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount

No phone number required to create a Google account.

ETA: I know you're talking about Gmail in this sub-thread, but to the point of the overall thread, you do not need to enter a phone number to create a Google account--and thus, you do not need to enter a phone number to access YouTube.
