16. Evidently this is a big joke here. There are DUers who couldn't get on who want an honest answer,

not jokes.

I couldn't get on yesterday either (I'm also in WI). When I finally googled about the problem the first answer that came up was on FR and they thought that DU being down was a really good joke.

This morning I still could not get on and still got the "Server not found" notice. Finally, with a proxy serve I was able to access DU and there was nothing on the front page about the problem that I could see, but threads started by DUers who finally able to get on were helped by joke responses. How clever.

17. I share your sensitivies.... While I assume unavoidable, this has been no

minor issue--no "minor snafu" in the minds of many of us still affected. I'm glad a lot of DUers either were not affected at all or now have the problem resolved, but that is not the case for a very large segment here. I'm not trying to blame anyone, but I lost nearly all of yesterday thinking I had a viral infection and trying to resolve it. There really needs to be a mechanism to let Duers know when there is a systematic problem with the site itself. I have suggested maybe x-posts on DailyKos, on the Yahoo groups DUPanicRoom group and perhaps elsewhere. Or maybe a mass email?

Even if one considers a "visit" to DU a "nicety" and not a "necessity," this has affected one heck of a lot of people and is STILL affecting many more. So, yes, the jokes really aren't particularly appreciated.

It's a Yahoo group & is where I found out about using a free proxy to log on. I'm still on a Dutch Free Proxy; haven't tried my regular provider since earlier this morning, when I still couldn't get on the regular way.

as the live stream had been cut in the hours before, then yesterday morning out here in Cal, no DU. I contacted some folks back in Madison to confirm it was down for them too.

The tweets from inside the Capitol and others outside kept me apprised of events there.

Not a funny situation at all, as I have not saved the DU Panic Room link or anything.

I found myself thinking this is it, this is the Koch Bros getting back at Anon.

29. It made me think of how great & funny we view it when a site we dislike goes down.

Not so funny when it happens to us though. It brought to mind a response I recently made to a thread about Anonymous and if there was a right wing counterpart to it.

I first read about DU being down on FR after doing a google search because that is where I found my first and really only answer. Many there also thought it was funny, but to be honest there were some who disagreed vehemently with DU but didn't think it was right for someone to knock off the site. Another said he disagreed but would defend our right to say what we believed.
