With the 2012 Elections Gearing Up The Media Is Back To Doing What It Does Best
With the 2012 elections starting to gear up (the first republican debate being just a couple months away) it's time for the media to decide what candidates are worthy of a presidential run and which ones aren't. And more importantly it's time for them to decide what issues those candidates need to run on.

Normally I don't pay much attention to what Republicans are thinking. But I couldn't help notice that in the CPAC straw poll from a couple weeks back Ron Paul once again came in first place but more importantly the former governor of my state Gary Johnson got 3rd place. Most Americans outside of New Mexico, even those that pay a fair amount of attention to politics, never heard of this guy. Johnson has virtually no organization behind him, absolutely no money in his campaign chest, no national spotlight, and he is a pro choice republican who has made marijuana decriminalization his staple issue. So seeing him beat Sara Palin, Mike Huckabee, Chris Christie, and even Newt Gingrich was just a bit surprising.

As I was busy being surprised the media simply decided to pretend that it didn't happen. Apparently having a pro-choice republican that has said multiple times that he would rather have his kids smoke pot than drink alcohol beating out just about every major republican contender for the republican nomination isn't a story worth mentioning. Oh, did I mention he also vehemently opposes the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq?

Now don't get me wrong, this is in no way an endorsement of Gary Johnson for president. The guy would be an absolute disaster in the white house. He believes in eliminating social security, medicare, and just about every other social support program there is. He thinks that as long as you give corporations free reign and tax them virtually nothing they will do what's best for all of us (yeah, he really is that naive and refuses to learn his lessons from the world around him).

But the real story here is that once again the media is shaping what you need to believe and who you need to be in order to run for president of this country. CPAC is certainly not any true gauge on what republicans throughout the country are feeling. But the media considers it important enough to give it constant coverage anyway. So you would think if they are going to report on it they would do it using facts instead of injecting their own narrative in to it. I know, what a novel concept.

There is a real split in the republican party which is forcing the party to move far to the left on just about every social issue there is and on many national security issues. Which is why you won't see any national republicans this election cycle touch the issue of gay marriage, abortion, nor any other social issue. So while most national Democrats including President Obama oppose any form of marijuana decriminalization there is a real movement in the Republican party to not only embrace it but also run on it. Which is something I never thought I would see happen.

But don’t get too excited, our national media isn't about to let that happen.

1. well
If they be true to their own heart, damn near everything would be legalized.

Everything except crooked politicians, wealth hoarders and big corporations.

But they are such liars, they lie to themselves and act to make Big Government even bigger.

It's no wonder the pubbies are such a small minority party.
They could rule the world if they'd just quit lying.

2. But most of them don't run on a platform of marijuana legalization

not even Ron Paul did this. Which is why the Johnson getting up that high in the poll surprised me so much.

3. That's because they lie
Democrats, as a whole, don't lie, but they don't stand up for what's right enough, so they look like wimps which is worse to to most of America than being a liar.

Frankly, what the conclave of liars does is not as important as what the media does which is support the liars and beat the wimps.

4. In the case of Ron Paul and Johnson I don't know that it's a matter of them lying
they seem to be very rigid in what they actually believe. The problem is that 90% of what they believe is absolutely mental.
