ADMINS?...MORE ACCESS/DNS PROB INFO PLEASE?...
The silence is deafening...

If the problem is really bad...just tell us what is going on...we can take it.

2. My guess is the problem is not with the DU..........
From what I'm hearing, the DNS has not resolved nation/worldwide so until it does, its proxy-land for some of us.

What I find amazing is it seems that the problem took no time to propagate over the net, but the resolution could take DAYS? Is the problem at the ISP's? I realize I'm pretty n00b-y on this stuff but the logic of this defies me.

Kick for attention.

9. Record caching
This may help to explain -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System#Record_caching

"changes to DNS records do not propagate throughout the network immediately, but require all caches to expire and refresh after the TTL."

"The TTL is set by the administrator of the DNS server handing out the authoritative response. The period of validity may vary from just seconds to days or even weeks."

3. On facebook, I read that several people stil cannot access, even trying the proxies
and other suggestions that I shared from the related OPs here.

I can still only access by proxy at work, but I access normally at home.

4. Still having problems?
It's because your ISPs DNS cache hasn't been updated.

Check this post out: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=530009&mesg_id=531626

That fixed the problem for me but YMMV. If it doesn't just use the proxy until the DNS finally resolves for you.

:)

5. It's HUGH!!!
:)

Some university should do a study and have say 100 DU'ers monitored, take the site is taken down for three consecutive days, and see what types of behavior transpire

6. DNS issues take awhile to resolve
Since there are hundreds of DNS servers all over the internet, changes can take 24-48 hours to propagate throughout the entire internet. There have been several threads on how to change your DNS settings here, I would recommend changing to a different server, or else just giving it another day, then things should be returned to normal.

12. It'd be interesting to hear what the original problem was
It wasn't that the DU IP addresses changed; they completely disappeared, in my ISP's name server, anyway. 'nslookup' just said it couldn't resolve the names at all (and it included the .org and 'democratunderground.com' names). For some reason, the DU names disappeared very quickly, but have taken at least a day to come back.

11. I wok for a telco and was told that Level 3 is having MAJOR problems today.
Level 3 is a major internet carrier. A lot of sites were down until they could be redirected to alternate carriers. Some of the other carriers are not as fast.
