Menthol Cigarette Ban? Tobacco Companies Sue FDA

A proposed menthol cigarette ban has tobacco companies fighting US health regulators in court in an effort to stop consideration of the ban.

Lorillard Inc and Reynolds American Inc's R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co unit filed a lawsuit against the Food and Drug Administration based on "conflicts of interest and bias among members" of the FDA advisory panel, which is researching the possible ban.

The lawsuit accuses three tobacco advisory panel members of having "severe financial and appearance conflicts of interest and associated biases," based on the allegation that the advisers received funding for research or work from smoking-cessation product manufacturers.

Two others panelists on a subcommittee also have biases, according to the suit, because they previously served as paid expert witnesses in lawsuits against tobacco companies.

5. Maybe. I remember years ago when a guy asked if I had any cigs, I went to

give him one and my friend said "wait, she smokes KOOLS and they're really strong - have you ever had one?" And the guy said "oh yeah, man, I've been in jail." And back then, I honestly think of the people I knew I was the only white person smoking KOOLS. Although lots of my friends' moms smoked Salem, so then again, maybe not. :shrug:

4. This is getting beyond ridiculous. When they enforce regulations on factories

and get gasoline cars off the road, then I might think they had some credibility about banning places WHERE one can/can't smoke.

As for the menthol :eyes: - let people smoke whatever the fuck they want to smoke. Just ridiculous. Don't they have anything better to do? :grr:

6. FDA Cracks Down on Wuss Smokes

"It's bad enough butts have filters," one FDA official said, "Menthol makes them totally uncool!" Smoking uncool cigarettes has become an epidemic among teenagers with many admitting to having experimented with ultralights. Further evidence shows menthol cigarettes to be a gateway drug to fruity cocktail drinks and wine coolers. New labeling requirements already being considered would require menthol cigarettes to contain warnings like, "Makes you a mama's boy" and "future pedophile."

to live like they do and want to save you from sinning.
