So what happened to DU yesterday? Hacked? DDOS?

Just came back up for me today. I actually went to Free Republic (goddamn what a horrible site!) to try to glean some info and
they had a post gloating over DU being taken down by Anonymous. I thought maybe a scheduled maintenance check went into effect and I missed the warning. I'll admit I was a bit worried. Anyone else have problems yesterday?

10. I went to Daily Kos and Huff Post first

and found nothing. Then I figured if DU was in trouble Freeper land would know about.

They were hoping (though surprisingly many there saw an Anonymous attack on DU a bad thing)

It's not that I want to give them credit -- but a couple people there did say it wasn't cool for any site to be hacked, as they wouldn't want their own site hacked either.

I responded it is up. He still can't get it to come up on his machine.

I lit out of here about late mid morning to get some dimension for a project and when I got back near dark DU was fine. I'd a been worried shitless if I'd been home and couldn't get through though as this is my prime source of links to news. The DU rules and thats all there is to it. :hi:

13. I, too, first found out that DU was down from Free Republic.

Doing a google search they were they first ones to come up that had the answer.

Yes, they were gloating and thought it was funny, but as well there were some who said it was wrong if DU was brought down by a hacker even though they didn't agree with us. I also read as well some who said they would defend our right to disagree with them.

I think it is foolish to believe there is nobody on the right who is capable of doing what Anonymous does. If it were to happen to us here at DU would we think of it as being as funny and amusing as when it happens to sites with which we disagree? Probably not.

I can access from work on my iPad and from my Droid, but not from any computer from home, even when plugged directly in the cable modem. Nothing. I have been screaming at my system for the last three hours.

I went to go on late yestday morning and it was off until about 8am today. My friend in Illinois could not get in either.
