1. What I can't figure out is, why only 61%? I keep reading that about 40 percent of the
nation is teabagger, etc. and I keep thinking, how on earth can these people be that way? And I wonder even more, will the coming years see fewer of them, or more of them?

I keep hoping that 61% will soon grow to 70 and then 80 and then 90 percent...wishful thinking on my part I guess.

6. You know, that's still a pretty good income...........
I've never made that much in my life, but if I did I wouldn't mind if my taxes went up a little. I'd still be comfortable.

Some folks seem to think that the tax rates under Clinton were so onerous. I certainly don't remember them that way. I've NEVER complained about paying taxes because I like the services that government provides.

23. Not really, college tuitions eat up a large % of the middle class income.
We make too much to qualify for assistance and believe me, it is a struggle to keep up.

30. pfft. average household income is around $60K. So if you live on $60K you can spend $60K
Edited on Tue Mar-01-11 08:05 PM by Hannah Bell
on college.

If that's not enough, let your kid get a part-time job.

I financed two graduate degrees by working part-time, + a teaching assistantship, + full-time summer work + savings & graduated without a dollar of debt. With over a 3.94 average in both cases.

My parents made nowhere near $150K. They would have thought they were in clover if they had.

still includes the marriage penalty, which is neither fair, nor logical.

22. The average median income for Americans
is under $50 thousand dollars a year, a small percentage of Americans earn more than 100K a year. But when Obama was Campaigning for President he didn't say 150K a year did he? He tossed out a number...let me remember...Oh Yes, Over 250K.

when cuts to education are a topic of discussion:

There's a reason why it was illegal to teach slaves to read.

And then I recommend that people read My Bondage and My Freedom, by Frederick Douglass.

28. the more attention this issue gets, the more talk it generates, the more the fallout from
30 years of republican shit policy becomes visible, the more that number will grow.

most people, i'd warrant, have never heard a cogent presentation of actual left economic arguments, nor a real left rebuttal of the winger nonsense that passes for economic received wisdom in the US.
