Does anyone know of an organization that helps people with pets who have fallen on hard times?
I've often thought that people who care so much about animals could help by forming organizations that would help with pets needs... especially when their owners have fallen on hard times.

I have a fine friend who is in that position now, and if anyone knows of an organization like this, I would appreciate the information.

Thanks!

1. I tried 'pet assistance' in a Google search and I was surprised at the resources
that came up for people having trouble that need help with pets in these times. Maybe there is something there that might help. Hope so.

3. Thank you. I will see if there is anything in the area of this person.
Those of us who have been in the position of needing help have often had bad experiences, so we are very wary. (There are DUers who won't accept *any* offr, because it has turned out painful in the past.)

So I will look at your suggestion, and leave it up to the owner of the sick doggie. :(

I sure wish *I* could do something! Pets are so important, when our lives have taken a nosedive!

2. I do not, wish I did. What a wonderful thing to have available for those in need.
To those in need, the animal companion must be a really really important part of their lives.

4. Yes, animals give that unconditional love that is impossible among humans!
People who find animals to be a very important cause... it would seem reasonable that they would want to help animals in these situations. Certainly must bettter than people having to abandone their pets!

6. This looks like it may be a good resource

I tried a couple of the links since resource lists like this can often have broken links. Did get a broken one, but it showed the new link for that organization and it went through.

11. Thank you for finding this and searching it out!
The first links I tried didn't work (including the Humane Society..?), but the Angels For Animals seems to have some good programs, but it doesn't give info on how to contact them.

When I googled them, I found all kinds of info about how to volunteer or donate, but nothing about how to receive assistance. That is disappointing, as it looked promising.

7. Other possibilities
Call a local vet and ask them what low cost vet help exists in their area. They usually know what is out there.
Also, your local animal shelter would probably know, or may have a program. Good luck and good health to your furry friend.

8. Have your friend get in contact with the local humane society
They have tons of resources and information that your friend really could use.

9. Yes...Pets of the Homeless

10. What a beautiful quotation! Leave it to Bluebear to add the dessert to a helpful post!
I took a look at the website, and it looks like it has some good information, and I thank you for that. In fact, I know I've seen the photo they are using before.

I wish there was a place at DU to store the info about these resources, because this could well be helpful to someone else in the future.

Thank you so much, Bluebear!
