Here is a crazy idea to start fixing the deficits |
|
Tax the shit out of millionaires and billionaires until the country that made them obscenely wealthy is financially stable again. Raise the rate on people making over $500,000 to 40% and over $1 million to 50%. Bring back the estate tax at 50% on estates over $2 million. Find the rich who don't pay, put them in prison for tax evasion and take everything they have.
Then, if that doesn't fix the problem, raise taxes more and then start looking at cutting education and programs for the poor.

charters of all corporations that paid $0 in taxes by using sneaky tax havens, freeze their offshore accounts and take what is owed.

"Democratic" Senator with such an idea. The wealthy have done very well over the last 30 years. Let them buck up now.

3. Simply rescinding the bush tax cuts for the top 1% would pay off most of the social security trust |

5. I totally agree. SS is (and is supposed to be) self funding. |
|
The U.S. government borrowed that money with no idea of how to pay it back. Additionally, that money was "loaned" to the wealthy and corporations in the forms of tax breaks and contracts.
We don't owe them shit.

4. try getting that legislation passed. |
|
of course the super rich should be heavily taxed. but who owns the government?
only massive demonstrations and general strikes,AT THE VERY LEAST, will change anything.
NOW is the time to start thinking beyond Madison.

6. I agree. I wish the unions would be more pro-active in helping us |
|
organize rallies in all 50 states every weekend. This is their (the unions) and our chance to show support for the middle class.
There were union workers at the rally I attended in Providence, RI on Saturday who had no idea there was a rally that day. It was organized by move-on. These people just stumbled upon it while out shopping at the down town Providence Place Mall. They were mad at their unions for not making them aware.
The unions and organizations like move-on need to coordinate on getting the word out. The media certainly won't help and many don't scour the net looking for things like this.
Sad, because it could have been so much bigger.

8. They did help a little here in TN apparently........ |
|
at least one group did. I think they were a little slow to the party myself. I talked to a union guy at the post office Monday and he said they didn't even know about Saturday's rally at his union. But they DID know about this weekend's on for the teachers and were putting together some strategy for it. Like I said, apparently they were late to the party.
However, that does bring up a point about the MoveOn groups. Did they try to contact local union groups with info ABOUT the rallies? There might be more than one set of miscalculations here.
