The NFL lockout is not a good thing... |
|
Edited on Wed Mar-02-11 08:19 AM by Stuart G
In my opinion, the coming battle between players and team owners, is not a good thing.
The players make a lot of money...see.. And that is what is going to be highlighted in the mainstream media.. There will be some sort of comparison between players and.. others asking for fairness..
that is ..us....
And the media will, if it is true to form, will try to destroy the players... guess who..else?
For the Pukes...the NFL lockout is great news..

If wealthy football players get shit on by their owners, what chance do the rest of us have?

These strikes hurt players and the owners. The owners take a short-term hit in their pocketbooks but are gambling that the popularity of their sport and the fan's demand for it will allow them to "starve" out the players and break the union. It worked in 1987 when the owners brought in scabs, still made money and the players ended up caving. I sadly have to agree with your assessment, this is not a good thing for the players.
When someone's struggling to make the month last the paycheck, watching millionaires and billionaires have a pissing match about money is an insult. A pox on both their houses...and I'm sure there are plenty around here who feel that way. The outrageous conduct of some of the players is sure to add to the union's problems and I also expect racial overtones to lurk just below the radar. If it focuses on the extravagances of the players, they'll lose the PR war...especially when Fall rolls around and Joe Sixpack sits around Sunday with nothing to watch but Women's Tennis.
As is seen by the many "hang the rich" threads around here, it's hard to get sympathy for those who make more in a year than some will earn in a decade or lifetime.

4. And for the thousands of people working at jobs indirectly related to NFL business... |
|
a lockout isn't a good thing for them either.

5. It is an awful thing for all... and ......also |
|
the truth is lost in the blaming...
The truth is the NFL owners can afford to share a little more
..it is that simple.. But greed is what it is all about.. pure....greed...
the owners are not putting their lives out there week after week Their brains are not being smashed. .so they can afford a little less.
Just a little, to share..with the gladiators who put themselves out there? Asking too much?? yea..
And the owners couldn't give a shit about those who work at the parks..or those jobs related to NFL business. not even old, beat up shit..not a shit..

7. Did you hear about a judge's ruling yesterday? |
|
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/02/nfl-union-tv-dispute-federal-judge_n_830154.html If there is a lockout, the owners will not be able to go ahead and get their payment for television rights from the networks. Maybe now there will be some action at the bargaining table since the owners may be possibly out of a shitload of revenue if they close up shop.

8. I think the owners don't care about that TV revenue..I wish they did.. |
|
Most owners,I believe, want to increase anti-union feelings.. .Having a long strike with wealthy workers feeds into Puke talking points..I sure hope you are correct Angry Old Dem..that they really do care about the TV money. And I hope that I am wrong about them really going after the Union and not caring about the money..

9. D Smith Isn't Helping Things |
|
He may truly have the players' best interest in mind, but he should be doing all his talking in private, during negotiations.
He is not that PR savvy and his statements about "war" and "legitimacy" just sound silly. I think he would do the players a lot more good by just shutting up in public. GAC
