3. Change your DNS to Google public DNS servers...
that worked for me at home.

4. Unfortunately, the DNS explanation is the only explanation we have.
The problem should eventually resolve itself as the DNS servers around the Internet update their DNS info for our site. Your local ISP may not have updated their DNS yet.

Until then, you can get to DU by setting your computer to use a public DNS server. A list of public DNS servers, and instructions to use them, are available here:

http://theos.in/windows-xp/free-fast-public-dns-server-list/

Sorry for the inconvenience.

6. problems continue here, too
laptop connects perfectly at the local coffee shop wifi with no changes to DNS info. won't connect at home at all

home computer with DNS change gets only partial functionality, which really makes no sense. I mean, is it getting into DU or isn't it?

12. Don't think that's the case.......
I am able to normally log onto DU using the same computer I'm using now when I am using the VPN of the local university campus. Here at my home, I am stuck in proxy-land. I'm thinking Skinner's DNS issue is spot on.

What is your ISP? Just curious if there's any correlation

I'm on Comcast, DU has been continuously accessible.

11. DU has changed their IP address.
The issue will resolve itself in a few days. If you want it sooner, you can call your ISP and ask them for alternate DNS servers.

I don't want to change any DNS stuff because I do not know what I am doing in that area. Every other site works fine.

I haven't had any problems getting on from either work or home. Maybe it's regional. I'm in DC and Northern Virginia.

15. Every provider...
...can use different DNS servers. That is why you may connect at one location and not at another until all of the new DNS information has updated on all the DNS servers.

Normally an internet connection, either wireless or wired gets it's IP address and DNS server information from the provider. That is why you might connect to DU on your phone that uses ABC internet provider and not at home on your computer where you use XYZ provider.

You can get around this by specifying the DNS servers in your network connection settings to a known good DNS server like Google or OpenDNS, or just wait it out until the servers have all updated, usually within 72 hours.

Also, you can try repairing your network connection to clear all address caches. This is done in windows XP by right clicking on your network icon in the lower right corner of your screen and left clicking on "Repair". This clears and resets all settings.

16. Neither can I. Still using a proxy server which I hate to do.
I have deleted cookies, emptied cache, etc.

I am going to delete the bookmark for DU, wonder if that will matter.
