Public Employee Unions Are Getting Screwed TODAY In Ohio, If Anyone Cares
COLUMBUS, Ohio - In e-mails an hour apart Republican and Democratic forces in Ohio Tuesday put out a call to supporters for help in the form of calls and cash to pass/defeat Senate Bill 5.

The Ohio State Senate’s Insurance, Commerce and Labor Committee adjourned after less than an hour Tuesday to consider 98 pages of changes to the bill which overhauls the state’s collective bargaining law.

That puts off until Wednesday at the earliest a vote on the bill to send it to the Senate floor.

Both sides aren’t waiting for that and are gearing up for the fight that will come once the bill comes out of committee.

Republicans hold a 23-10 majority. The key number of votes for passage or defeat is 17, that’s why Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern in his appeal asked supporters “will you give just $17 to our efforts to get to the 17 votes we need to defeat Senate Bill 5,” he wrote.

Redfern urged that “Senate President Tom Niehaus said that a full floor vote could take place this week. That means we need to step up our efforts like never before.”

Republicans meanwhile rallied support by reminding their supporters that Senate Bill 5 is about job creation.

The letter from Gov. John Kasich says “the protestors in Wisconsin and Ohio are passionate. I recognize that change is difficult, but we must stand together.”

The letter continues in bold type “this issue is about our desire to give more power to the taxpayers in our state.”

The Republican plea offers supporters three ways to help. “Make a generous donation… so that we can rally the support we’ll need for positive change,” read the first.

It was followed by urging calls of support to elected officials in the state legislature followed by the wish for the reader to pass the note on to five or more friends.

“Changing the business-as-usual mindset is never easy but I’m ready to fight for our future and I hope that you’ll join me,” wrote Kasich.

1. I care. Recommended - but I don't have $17 to send. No job.
But there may be others who can and we can keep it out there at least.

25. I can cover you
I have enough to send $34. Ohio's been there for Wisconsin, and I sure as shit am going to be there for Ohio.

Well, not physically. I can't afford that right now.

3. What's with the "if anybody cares"? crap
Has this board given you any reason to think we wouldn't care? Not enough attention on WI and unions for you? I don't know if you're a man or a woman but the phrase "stepping on one's own dick" comes to mind.

I'd love to learn how many corporate dollars have been flooding in there to make that happen...

9. Was there some question about voting irregularities in Ohio?
Don't I remember that there was some discussion about voting issues in Ohio in recent elections? Is THIS a result? Please know, I am not being a smart ass when I ask this, but I'm really wondering about it. At the time we thought it was just about fixing it for a few corrupt people, but now it may end up being a lot more far reaching than it first appeared.

What is the possibility of recall elections in Ohio? Is it even possible that this crew can be booted out of office if they screw everything up?

19. I really don't want to be a paranoid person.
I don't WANT to live that way, but sometimes it is hard not to be a little bit paranoid with the stuff that happens. I tell myself never to attribute to malice anything that could be simple stupidity, and to remember there is no such thing as a secret if more than one person knows about it, but even those two realities are not enough to quell the unease sometimes.

There are a lot of folks out there that stand to benefit if the unions are crippled--let alone taken out of the game...

Just saying...

17. K&R
I suffer from behavioral issues which prevent me from joining in any protest activities. I don't know what's going on in my state. I don't know what's going on in my country, but it seems to me that the more peaceful we are in our protest, the more we are being railroaded. I'm getting really fed up with these fucking fascists.

28. I signed on to a letter opposing this just yesterday. I don't get it.
They want to live among great populations of unemployed people, behind gated walls with armed guards? Pollute the land so we all get sick? They don't make sense to me, either.
