Tennessee considering an alternative currency...
Edited on Wed Mar-02-11 02:38 PM by cynatnite
"Creates special joint committee to study the feasibility of Tennessee adopting an alternative currency."

I saw this on a twitter or news feed headline and thought it was a joke. But no, it's seriously a proposal in the Tennessee General Assembly. You must read the WHEREASes in the actual bill.

A quick google of some of the wing-nuttier ranting ("widely recognized experts predict the inevitable destruction of the Federal Reserve System’s currency") shows the same bill has been introduced in Virginia and South Carolina. It's apparently popular with people who want to sell you gold, too. Wonder what "think tank" cooked this up?

Sen. Ketron appears to be getting his legislative proposals by way of a drunk guy in his boxer shorts forwarding Glen Beck e-mails. Remind me to stay away from Murfreesboro if he's the kind of politician they elect over there.

3. I remember a joke about Tennessee alternative currency.
A couple of counterfeiters were driving in the Ozarks and decided to pass their loaded suitcase full of $18 bills.

They went to a general store and asked for change for an $18 bill. Without blinking, the proprietor asked, "Do you want that in two nines or three sixes?"

6. Tennessee will be just like Zimbabwe
It'll cost a billion dollars for bread. Plus I believe Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution prohibits states from printing their own money, but republicans don't give a shit about the constitution anymore.

10. Unfortunately for those of us in this state

most political campaigns are waged in the fundamentalist abusive, misogynistic, homophobic churches.

So we have a lot of legislators with preacher hair and KKK values.

They're nuttier than Pecan Sandies, but the fools here believe that Jeebus speaks through these cretins, so they keep voting for them.

Teh abortion and the homosekshuals are the only things the majority of voters care about in this state. Tennessee can rot in hell, go broke, and all of its citizens can suffer as long as our state legislators do all they can do to bring on the Crapture...

Jeebus loves the South best, dontcha know! (but he hates her poor for some reason...)

Like that cartoon a few days back "Our budget is a mess. No more abortions! That'll fix it!" Except in this case it's some kind of Jeebus Gawd scrip that'll fix what ails this pathetic state....

13. What a stupid waste of resources! They'd have to secede first.
They ought to be run out for willfully wasting the money they are supposed to be stewards over.
