1. Wait, how is owning a weapon equivalent to attacking the poor?

Nothing in the cartoon suggested the two things were equivalent. What on earth made you think all the things listed had to be of equal concern?

Ah here it is...

5. Maybe because it's surrounded by detestable things?
Is it not clearly obvious that the cartoonist is implicating owning a firearm with hating the poor?

There's nothing wrong with owning a weapon. Absolutely nothing. To put it up there is ridiculous.

4. Jesus used a whip to drive the hucksters out of the Jerusalem temple
Last I heard, a whip is considered a "weapon."

This is not to say that Jesus actually struck anyone with the whip - just that he used it to chase the fraudsters away.

9. Did Jesus use a whip?
Mark 11:15-19
(15)And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. (16)And he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. (17)And he was teaching them and saying to them, "Is it not written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations'? But you have made it a den of robbers." (18)And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and were seeking a way to destroy him, for they feared him, because all the crowd was astonished at his teaching. (19) And when evening came they went out of the city

{note: no whip}

Matthew 21:12-13
(12) And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. (13)He said to them, "It is written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer,' but you make it a den of robbers."

{note: no whip}

Luke 19:45-46
(45) And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold, (46) saying to them, "It is written, 'My house shall be a house of prayer,' but you have made it a den of robbers."

{note: no whip}

16. Except for that part where he used a whip...
"In the temple courts he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables."

John 2:14-15

Isn't the same as striking them.

10. IIRC, there is no mention of whether or not he actually owned the whip.
Coulda borrowed it or snatched one belonging to one of the moneylenders.

This whole NOTW bullshit is on my last frayed nerve. Time for a Jesus Christ Superstar revival... but those entrenched in the dogma would never get it anyway.
