Where can I find lists of corporations that don't outsource?
I've just had enough.

In December, I went to Walgreens to buy some gifts for a family that my daughter's class was sponsoring. I walked out of the store empty handed, because I could not find ONE single toy that was not made in China (or in a few cases, Bangladesh, etc). Nothing made in the U.S.

Yesterday, I sent an email to Progressive Insurance with a question about my policy (Progressive has been my insurance company for 5 years). I received a reply today, and while it was written in very good English, I could immediately tell that it was not AMERICAN English.

My conscience is having a field day, knowing that I am handing my money over to and supporting these companies.

So, anyone know of a resource that lists what companies do/do not send jobs overseas?

5. Interestingly, I could not find a list
at least via the google.

I DID find a list of companies that DO outsource, from an older post on CNN when Lou Dobbs was there.
THAT list is obscenely long.

This is the link if you want it:
http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/lou.dobbs.tonight/popups/exporting.america/content.html

Here are a couple of web sites that proclaim their products are "made in America" but that does not necessarily mean their *supplies* are from here.

http://www.americansworking.com/

There are enough other sites listing other Made in America products that simply "made in America" on google will list them.

7. Walgreen's is not my first choice for gifts for anyone.
Try a local gift shop, instead. They could use your support.

9. The shit being sold at our local gift shops, it's all made in China too.

even the hokey looking wooden signs and stuff. All made in china. Love that free trade. You want to buy them something made in America, buy them a gun.

10. Look for a better class of gift shop, then.
Try one that features things made by local crafts people and artists. Most places have one or more such shops.

I have no trouble finding locally-made gifts. Never have, and I've lived in some pretty small towns. You know...take a little trouble and have a look around. You'll be amazed at what you find.

11. I'm just telling you how it is. There are two gift stores and a wal mart.
and everything comes from the same country, China. There are two furniture stores, one sells Chinese furniture, one sells a combination of Chinese and American furniture. the hardware store might have a few things made in USA but mostly not.

15. Yah. Check this link:
http://www.etsy.com/

Some of the stuff on there is even made by people who are DU members. There's a wealth of American made stuff there that make great gifts of all kinds. If there are not shops in your little town, there's always the Internet. Tons of cools stuff to shop for and give as gifts or to buy for yourself.

Knock yourself out.

Oh, yeah, check out the DU Marketplace forum. Support your fellow DUers. Cool stuff by the bagful.

Or, you can just complain about there not being anything available that doesn't come from China. Whatever blows your dress up.

16. You seem angry and confrontational mineralman.
It's all good though. I won't hold it against you. MY GF, she's an Ohio state unionized employee, she needs to do some work on the computer (for work no less)so I'm out of here. peace.

17. Do I? Well, you don't know me very well, then.
Do check out that link I posted. You never know what you'll find there. Most stuff is handmade by folks right here in the USA. Lots of nice gifts for the people in your life.

Say hi to your GF. She might like some of the stuff on that site. In fact, I'm sure she would. Buy her something nice.

18. Google "YYYYY Made in USA by American Workers"
Where YYYYY is the toy(s) that you want for your daughter. Choices exist. The companies that refuse to outsource jobs want americans to notice and give them the volume that they deserve. If american consumers do not give the outsource refusers business, two certainties will happen. The first is that companies that refuse to outsource will let workers go and go bankrupt. The second is that the products that are no longer made by companies that refuse to outsource jobs will be made offshore at near slave labor wages.

20. Thanks for the links
I'll keep looking too. I have an account on delicious.com - I could have sworn I've bookmarked such sites, but I've got over 7,000 bookmarks now and it's getting hard to manage them and find things.
