16. I saw a PBS special with Whoopi Goldberg --

at the San Diego Zoo visiting with a newborn gorilla. She was not allowed to touch it herself but that baby wanted to touch her something fierce and kept reaching out to Whoopi. Whoopie was beside herself and desperate to hold it - and she told the zoo worker it was everything she could to to stop herself from grabbing that baby out of her arms. At one point she was eye to eye with the baby and told it, "I know people who look just like you."

And that is the truth. I look into primates faces and see "us", I watch their behaviors and I see "us" -- and I have no problem with the fact that I am related to these creatures. In fact, I think it is wonderous.
