Per Fareed Zakaria on Spitzer's show right now. Our investment is on the past, not on the future.

3. Zakaria doing a special on American exceptionalism or the lack thereof and what is needed.
Edited on Wed Mar-02-11 08:24 PM by dkf
He says what we need is to invest invest invest and then he talked about how much we spend for the elderly vs how much we spend on investing in our kids.

The special is this Sunday I believe.

4. Ah, thank you.
I can agree that every dollar spent on our youth is an investment in our future.

Thanks for the reply. :)

7. Elderly vote, children do not. So are you wanting to put an age cut off on voting?

10. That is what I just told my co-worker.
The elderly vote in droves too. That is what will keep the focus on spending for social security and Medicare and it is the reason we won't be able to keep our standard of living compared to those countries who are able to focus their efforts on the future.

We are an aging country whose time has passed.

9. Spurious argument
The problem is the inflated cost of medical care and drugs, not that we care more about the past than the future.

13. You miss the point
The amount spent on the old is inflated by the inflated cost of medical care and drugs.
