"Advice" Columnist advises teen girl to take verbal abuse because "good ones" are rare.

The problem is that the boyfriend’s response to almost anything my daughter says is a cut or put-down, a dismissal of her accomplishment or mocking. She says his father does the same thing to him, his brother and their mother; so to him it’s “normal.”

Write this jack-asses boss and let them know he's WAY off the mark.

1. Don't forget to tell him that verbal abuse before marriage
more times than not turns into physical abuse after.

3. Yep--insecurity and need to dominate at the root
The supposedly wonderful catch of a man here has to keep his girlfriend down so he can feel better about himself.

This sort of behavior doesn't get better; it's more likely to escalate.

4. I had a verbally abusive ex
And it still affects me to this day over 12 years later. I still have communications issues because I can still see him screaming at me for calling/emailing/IMing him at the wrong time (this was pre texting).

5. Holy shit, he blames women!

See, this is all wrong. I actually am naturally the same as this kid. But it's not mean spirited. It's actually because my family has a caustic and dry sense of humour. So, it took me a while to realize everyone is not like this. Therefore, with my fiancee I am constantly stopping myself and biting my tongue cause though it's normal in my family she wouldn't get it and it would hurt her feelings.

This kid needs to learn what I've learned.

7. This guy is the single worst advice columnist I've ever seen.
Who gave this guy a column? He's about as thorough and rational as the iPad generation he seems to dislike so much.

9. The boyfriend needs mental help.
And so do his siblings and parents; and if this is allowed to continue, so will his girlfriend.

It's amazing, in a frightening way, how one person's idiocy (in this case the father's) can poison an entire group of people. Unbelievable.
