SF officers accused of illegal searches, perjury

Officials with the San Francisco Public Defender's Office have released a video they say proves that six narcotics officers illegally searched two South of Market apartments - and that some committed perjury so they could use what they found as evidence.

The video recordings show two separate drug busts on the fifth floor of the Henry Hotel, a residential hotel at 106 Sixth St. A search of one room happened Dec. 23; police searched the other room on Jan. 5.

Officers were led to the apartments based on informant tips and did not have search warrants. They claimed in their reports that they had followed the constitutional requirements of getting consent before entering and searching the rooms, then arresting occupants on felony narcotics charges.
