Are Republicans Jumping Off a Cliff?
With Republicans vigorously pushing spending cuts -- and winning the short term battles with Democrats, First Read notes the new NBC/WSJ poll finds the Americans who are most concerned about spending cuts are core Republicans and conservatives, not independents or swing voters.

Said GOP pollster Bill McInturff: "It may be hard to understand why a person might jump off a cliff, unless you understand they're being chased by a tiger. That tiger is the Tea Party."

Key findings: "33% of Tea Party supporters, 34% of Republicans, and 35% of McCain voters list deficit/spending as the top issue the federal government should address, compared with 23% of independents, 24% of suburban women, 19% of seniors, and 19% of those ages 18 to 34 who say that. By contrast, 35% of seniors, 39% of 18- to 34-year-olds, 40% of independents, and 41% of suburban women believe job creation/economic growth is nation's top issue."

1. They already jumped, are currently falling fast and
will splat on the ground right around the 2012 elections.

4. But Faux News, as well as the MSM, are intent on keeping them on a bungie cord.
A few GOP recalls in WI, and no Dems recalled there, could help cut that cord.

6. Hope so but American memories are so short it really depends on the last few months before.
They could be performing human executions on TV today and by the middle of next year voters would completely forget if the Republicans told them it wasn't true.

8. There are some bills that cause irreparable harm...those having to do with wars,
with environmental destruction, with reduced health care. Certainly some policies can cause irreparable harm too...torture, war planning, mass firing of attorneys general, etc.. And we had more than our fair share of both during the disastrous Bush years. Republicans were put into power in many States in 2010 and there will be terribly bad bills passed. Ohio, New Jersey, Maine, Arizona. These are not popular or thoughtful bills, many are ideological. The good news is spending cuts can be restored, bargaining rights can be restored, and taxes can be raised once these nuts are seen for what they are and lose the next elections.

Could happen. Unfortunately, the gop has the citizens united ruling, media control, and a willingness to lie and smear on their side. These are effective tools so it won't be easy for the truth to see the light of day...but the potential is there. The case has to be made. Republicans pushed the public off the cliff but Fox will tell everyone that it was the dems' fault. Then they'll say it was good for those who fell. Then those who were pushed off will be called lazy and we're better off without them. Frank Luntz will call it 'freedom flying.' In the end, most people will be confused and 30% of voters will believe that PObama personally shoved business owners and the military over the edge.

10. "In this fight (re: unions and budgets), Republican governors appear to be winning Round 1" -
this was a direct quote from "liberal" commentator Mara Liasson on the "liberal" NPR network this morning! :banghead:

12. I bet her voice could hardly contain her glee.
I wonder if she gets money under the table to 'catapult the propaganda'.

If people think payola is dead in the media, they are only kidding themselves.
