Matt Damon: Not a fan of Obama

By Katie McLaughlin, CNN
March 3, 2011 11:03 a.m. EST

"He (Obama) misinterpreted his mandate," said Damon. "He's doubled down on a lot of things."

"In his State of the Union he didn't even say the word 'poverty,' " said Damon. "You've got millions of people languishing in it." Damon, who backed the Obama campaign in 2008, said he appreciates that the president is a "deep thinker." The actor called Obama brilliant, but said he "definitely wanted more."

When questioned about what he'd do about Afghanistan, Damon said, "I don't think the mission there has been very well articulated. And I think it would help to kind of reframe the way we're thinking about being there and why we're there."

Damon also said there has not been a meaningful reform of Wall Street. He said he believes that is "dangerous" and "shameful" and that the financial crisis is "just going to happen again," because "they don't make anything. They don't build anything."

Being able to think for myself, I don't need actors to "lead" me on any issue. Who cares what he thinks? it's no better than what any of us think!

51. There are plenty of man in the street opinions
On TV and especially in newspapers. In fact, it makes more sense to ask random people on the street than famous actors. They are more likely to be average.

Does not make his opinion more worth hearing.

I'd as soon hear yours.

And if that were the case, then one would respect Obama's opinion way more, who has more contact with the most high ranking people?

23. Sounds like some folks have adopted the multi-decade Republican talking point of actors should shut
the hell up.

They weren't pooh poohing when he was working hard for Obama but since has issues with the job the President is doing his opinions don't mean spit now.

His opinion has as much merit as anyone else's and just because he isn't a politician doesn't mean he isn't a thoughtful and insightful person with meaningful opinions.

Virgina Foxx is a Congressman and she knows less than the average rock that has been buried for a few hundred million years. Position is not expertise.

15. Matt Damon is representative of every disappointed Obama voter that worked their asses off
to get this President elected. So regardless of whether some now want to denigrate him as a "celebrity," I'm sure those same people said different things about Mr. Damon when he was raising and donating all those Hollywood celebrity $$$$ during the 2008 campaign.

I agree with him. His words are a very respectful, but honest critique of a person who did not live up to the hype and did not deliver what was promised.

Based on Damon's statement, it's he who seems to have misunderstood the President's policy and goals.

Let's face it, "misinterpreted his mandate" is great stuff for Newsmax and Weazel Zippers.
