Did anyone just see that on CNN where Jessica Yellin
was reporting from somewhere in Georgia where Newt Gingrich had just announced an exploratory phase of his possible presidential candidacy. Somewhere over Yellin's shoulder there was a lot of shouting by what sounded like a lot of people and they did not sound happy. It looked to me like Yellin might be near a courthouse and I thought it might be a protest either against CNN or in support of WI protesters. It was downright distracting. So Don Lemmon, in studio, interrupted Yellin to ask what all the commotion was about. Now, get this, this CNN "reporter" refused to answer the question saying:

"This is not related to Newt Gingrich's announcement. Ah, its...it's an unrelated issue. We don't...we don't have to get into it."

Lemon: "Alright, continue (about Gingrich). I'm sorry."

Now that's some quality, straight-from-the-hip journalism right there.

If anyone was/is there or knows what was going on out of view of Yellin's camera, please do tell =).

1. All this news you see going on around me, just ignore it. Back to you Jim.
Typical MSM news day.

2. That's what I was thinking. Here she is, news being made over her
shoulder, and it's something she doesn't "need to get in to".

Her journalistic instincts are astounding. NOT!

3. Shouting is not automatically, de facto "news." n/t

5. Nope, I don't have cable. I saw your description of the segment:
"Somewhere over Yellin's shoulder there was a lot of shouting by what sounded like a lot of people and they did not sound happy. It looked to me like Yellin might be near a courthouse"

Unhappy people shouting is not, by definition, news.

One of the reasons I don't watch cable news is they waste time reporting on so many things that aren't truly newsworthy as it is. Now they're being criticized for not reporting on some yelling.

8. I saw it
I thought it was quite odd that she's reporting something that was not news while ignoring something else. I was curious about what was going on. It's just an example of the news by agenda that these outfits operate on. It simply wasn't on their list for the days "news."

10. Would you say that some people shouting is always going to be newsworthy?
That an internationally broadcasted news program should stop what they're doing and focus on a group of people just because they're yelling?

11. It may not be newsworthy, but it's probably as newsworthy as anything else they report on.
I don't watch cable news for the same reason you stated above.
When I do happen to see a bit, it's always some crappy fluff piece, a hit piece, or something utterly nonsensical.
At least reporting on the yellin' in the background might have been interesting. And it would have been an exclusive!

I think most of the objections are because she refused to say what the yelling was over. A simple "Traffic accident: Ignore it." or "Some guy stepped on someone's shoe and he's beating him down. It's nothing to do with us." would have sufficed.

9. Glitch in the matrix, someone tugging on the curtain, etc.
That news was not the 'news' she was instructed to present!
