Well, it's 4:00 in Wisconsin, and....
Edited on Thu Mar-03-11 05:22 PM by kpete
Republicans voted 19-0 to give the Democrats until 4 p.m. Thursday to appear before the Senate. The 14 Democrats are believed to be in Illinois. If the senators do not return by the deadline, the Senate agreed to find them "in contempt and disorderly behavior."

Well, it's 4:00 in Wisconsin, and:

Longtime Sen. Fred Risser, D-Madison, said it was "below the dignity of the state Senate to be spending its time passing such resolutions."

He said none of the 14 senators is in Wisconsin, and none plans to be in the Senate chamber by 4 p.m.

3. I hope they hold their ground.
Texas suffered a similar standoff after the gerrymandering of our CDs in 2003.

5. That means, "Not compromising," i.e. doing anything and everything
the Republicans want, immediately.

7. So is a temper tantrum next?
The cops told Walker to take a hike, they aren't going to get anyone. I wonder if he'll try the national guard next or just lay on the floor wailing away about how unfair it all is...

9. His tiny little foothold on authority is the WI State Patrol--
characters in Smoky hats who mostly ticket people on the Interstates and drive the Gubner around in black Suburbans. Papa Bear is the recently-appointed 68 year-old father of 2 R legislators, the infamous Fitzgerald Brothers.

10. I think the GOTP are going to throw him under the bus...
That's what they do. They prop up some asshat, give him his orders, and when he fails you can bet he was a loose cannon and they have no need for him/her anymore. The GOTP are so desperate they only run the expendable now. They prop them up, then knock them down. It's grand theatre.

12. No, they like him. They'll get some other Republicans
to vote this down so Walker can save face and say he held his ground.

There are two ways out of this. Violence, they can start beating and arresting people. Or capitulation, they can give up and find another way to get the money. Walker will not give in, so others are going to have to.

11. I think they only need a simple (!) majority for non-fiscal acts.

17. …so it took you a whole day to learn an obscure fact
about the WI Legislature.

That fact in itself speaks volumes about the power of the new media.

Anybody who wants to know just about anything can find out in short order. Now, if we can only figure out how to make the masses WANT to know…

13. Stand your ground in the face of threats
And the threats turn out to be so much hot air. Did the Democrats finally learn something from observing Republican behavior for the last 30 years? the difference being that Democrats could have taken effective action any number of times, but didn't; Republicans are letting their mouths write checks their asses can't cash.

There's a difference.
