NAACP Wants To Honor Kid Rock, Faces Boycott
DETROIT -- The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People wants to honor Kid Rock at its annual Freedom Fund dinner at Cobo Conference and Exhibition Center in Detroit.

The NAACP said it wants to recognize Rock for his commitment to Detroit.

<snip>

"Kid Rock has made the Confederate flag a symbol at all his concerts," said Adolph Mongo of Detroiters for Progress. "It's been a problem since 2005."

Mongo said he and the rest of his group plan to protest the dinner if Kid Rock is honored because the flag is a symbol of hate, and the NAACP should not be honoring anyone who waves it proudly.

<snip>

"I've never had an issue with it," Kid Rock said. "To me it just represents pride in southern rock 'n' roll music. Plus it just looks cool."

1. Why the hell would the NAACP honor Kid Rock?
Can anyone give me an explanation to this, I just can't see why the hell the NAACP would honor Kid Rock of all people.

2. Just another boring, self deluded, racist right winger.
What is the NAACP thinking?

3. Kid Rock is a low-class idiot redneck.
Why on earth would the NAACP want to honor that clown? And Detroit has plenty of white racists; is the NAACP going to honor them for their "committment to Detroit"?

There's no shortage of stupid anywhere these days.

8. Isn't he from an upper-class background? I saw a VHI special on him years ago
and I seem to recall him being from a wealthy family. His love of hip hop caused some sort of friction and he ended up moving out. The documentary stresses his love of hip-hop/roots in Detroit hip-hop scene. This is before his redneck phase.

I could be remembering wrong. I feel like I've heard Kid Rock claim a lot of contradictory things.

5. Well Kid the swastika looks pretty cool too, but some folks get wound up about that for some reason.
...IMHO he's a talentless nobody...

6. Here we go...
Kid Rock's music is actually quite good, if you're into the rock/country hybrid that he's crossing into.

I disagree highly with showing the Stars 'n Bars, but his music really is good.

9. Most young people today don't even know the history of the Confederate flag
.. all they know is that it's the "Rebel flag" and they like to fly it because they think they're "rebels" of one sort or another. That's how it is actually labeled in some stores, too.
Rebel Flag", not "Confederate Flag".

10. honoring "Kid Rock"
christ almighty.

I'm sorry, he's a no-talent low-life.

Eminem has done more for Detroit by simply having some goddamn skillz.
