What can the Democrats do to stop this right-wing onslaught?
To these Republican right-wingers now in control, power is to be used. It is not to be merciful or compromising. Either you agree with them or you are an enemy.

They don't want compromise. They want total domination. There is no middle ground. There is only the ground on which they stand.

Democrats can wait until the next election and maybe the voters will put them in control...again? Maybe the voters will vote for real change the next time?

Democrats have been kicked to the curb and the right-wing are coming with ball bats to finish the job. They see weakness and they aim to take advantage of it.

It is becoming obvious that the Democratic Party in Washington will not change on their own. They are fat and happy with their power and their careers. They have become close to worthless. If anything is to be done, it will have to be done by the people, not the Democratic Party.

1. If people can't see what's happening then I don't know what can be done
The move to bust public unions is part of a multipronged attempt "to bring us closer to a more permanent Republican majority," said Marjorie Hershey, a political science professor at Indiana University.

While they may not succeed in crushing Democrats in the long-term, recent victories in the courts and at the voting booth will help Republicans tip the scales.

Republicans won a major victory last year when the Supreme Court overturned a ban on corporate spending in elections.

They want a one party rule and are close to having it.

3. and there are idiots out there helping them
Jim Osheim, who is living off a pension he earned as a unionized autoworker, was among hundreds of Walker supporters who faced off against 65,000 protesters Saturday.

"If they've got to lose their health care to keep the state solvent so they keep their hand out of my wallet, so be it," he told AFP.

"I can't afford any more money out of my pocket to support their gravy train."

2. "If anything is to be done, it will have to be done by the people,"
this earns you a rec.

"They (democrats) are fat and happy with their power and their careers." in a nutshell, we can't depend on any of them...time to hit the streets in earnest...

the people. Therefore, people have to change the way they view politics such as waiting for a saviour and try and take charge of the political process. It will be hard due to money and greed but must be done to change things.

5. Get rid of secret electronic and mechanical ballot counting
or they will continue to take over this country. Ballots must be Hand Counted by the People.

8. Very Important.
None of the rest of what we do matters if this isn't fixed. But how do we do it?

6. Side with the few Republicans who believe in legalizing
marijuana and get it done.

That is honestly all I can think of that would help us at this point.

Otherwise, Obama still holds the veto pen. He should use it when necessary.

7. Very little
Block them where we have the votes. Where we don't? Lose and live to fight again (IOW, use it at the next election).

There's little they can do that can't be undone if the public is clearly on our side.

9. Unfortunately, there are lots of things that can't be undone.
Edited on Fri Mar-04-11 07:15 AM by drm604
It's difficult to undo the raiding of pension funds.

It's difficult to undo the destruction of ground water with fracking fluid.

It's difficult to undo the poisoing of the gulf with oil.

It's difficult to undo the depletion of people's retirement assets.

It's difficult to undo the deaths or permanent damage done to people by lack of health care.

It's difficult to undo loss of international respect.

It's difficult to undo global warming.

And much more.

10. Maybe once the people have lost everything they will stand up and fight
It will be a long road back and many of us will not live to see it happen but just maybe people will wake up.
