Obama CRANKS UP The 2012 Money Machine: Donors Asked To GIVE $61,600 ANNUALLY TO DNC |
|
Edited on Fri Mar-04-11 02:25 PM by Segami
:smoke: " Some of Barack Obama’s top operatives have embarked on a cross-country “listening tour,” pumping top donors for big 2012 donations, Politico reports. They’re asking donors who maxed out on donations to Obama and Hillary Clinton in 2008 to join a new “National Finance Council,” for the low-low price of a $61,600 donation per couple per year to the Democratic National Committee.
Asking for so much money so early has annoyed the Democrats’ congressional committees, who fear being left with scraps,... ....since individuals can only donate $71,000 to committees and campaigns. “It’s just like them to think about themselves first,” said one congressional fundraiser. But lobbyist and fundraiser Tony Podesta disagrees. “It’s not a big deal, and in line with what everyone would expect,” he says. Besides Obama donors can recruit “their older children” to donate to the congressional cause, “or maybe their former spouses.”
http://www.newser.com/story/113378/obama-cranks-up-the-2012-money-machine.html
from Politico:
One of their pitches: an offer to join a new “National Finance Council,” which would entail a contribution to the Democratic National Committee of up to $61,600 per couple, per year. That money could be used to fund support operations for Obama’s reelection effort, in addition to smaller donations they would be expected to make directly to Obama’s as-yet-unincorporated Chicago-based campaign, according to donors.
The decision to ask for the DNC’s $61,600 up front, while hardly unprecedented, has taken some Democratic fundraisers by surprise. In part, that’s because it comes so early in the cycle — before any clear GOP frontrunner has emerged. But that kind of commitment from wealthy donors could crowd out the party’s cash-hungry congressional committees, which are desperately competing for 2012 contributions, often from the same source.
Under current federal campaign finance limits, individuals can contribute a total of about $71,000 to committees, campaigns and PACs — leaving donors with $10,000 or less in post-Obama discretionary income.
“It’s just like them to think about themselves first,” said one Democratic congressional fundraiser, referring to the Obama campaign team.

8. Remember how during the campaign, they touted how many under $100 donors they had? |
|
And remember how many of the really big donors were people like Matt Damon, Ashton Kutcher, George Clooney, etc.?
They'll need an entirely new strategy this round... and this is just step 1.

12. Know what's weird? I never met a single campaign donor in the flesh. |
|
And yes, all of my friends and family were Obama devotees. All had donated to multiple campaigns in '04 and most still had disposable income to spend on '08. I've always wondered about that. Where were the modest donors? I didn't manage to meet even one.

We have 3 school board members up for re election. Considering Obama's appointment of Arne Duncan and then fact he will have to have his lips surgically removed from Jeb Bush's ass (or any other Bush family member- or member ), it is in MY self interest to focus on the local. Howard Dean was right.
They keep sending me requests for donations and I keep sending them back with tersely worded letters. You think they would read them and stop wasting their money and my time.
I have come to an important decision. Unless I see a real DEM, I will be voting for Ron Paul. He is just the turd for that Washington punch bowl. His request to audit the Fed must keep Bernanke and Geitner up late at night washing the crap out of their under ware . We need to prosecute the real criminal and those responsible for this economic mess-not blame teachers, firefighters, and those that were swindled out of their homes.
