Yesterday:

-snip-

Cari Anne Renlund, chief legal counsel for the state Department of Administration, said in Dane County court that estimates of damage to marble includes $6 million to repair damaged marble inside the Capitol, $1 million for damage outside and $500,000 for costs to supervise the damage.

Today:

-snip-

Touring the Capitol Friday morning with state architect Dan Stephans, Plale said he had not immediately observed any damage from demonstrations over Gov. Scott Walker's budget-repair bill, though the pair was just starting their tour. Plale said that he didn't believe the state had had any experienced contractor provide the quote on the damages.

3. Lying in court is Perjury
There are severe penalties for perjury.

Cari Anne Renlund is/should be in very deep trouble.

5. No it isn't. You have to be under oath to perjure yourself.
However, the court could impose sanctions for misrepresentations.

Let me back up though... she said this in court?

8. I'll be damned--yes, she did. I was skeptical too, but from the article:
Cari Anne Renlund, chief legal counsel for the state Department of Administration, said in Dane County court that estimates of damage to marble (you've already seen the rest in the OP).

9. I was following reports on the hearing on Twitter, and I remember all the shock when those figures
were first mentioned.

I have no idea whether a source for those figures was identified. Don't recall any tweets referring to any.

My guess is they naively thought the judge would be overwhelmed to hear about millions of dollars in damage (as their rightwing Twitter followers were, shrieking about it) and would take their side. For some odd reason the judge didn't believe it would cost millions to remove tape residue...

11. I wouldn't call that a lie. She probably was told that those were the figures. nt.

10. I take it that's the person that testified that there was $7.5M in damages?
If so, not only should she be in a boatload of trouble, her claims were so outlandish that the judge didn't even believe her. Here's what he said in his ruling:

"Thousands of people peacefully protested for two weeks and no injuries or damage to personal or government property occurred."

Here's a link to the pic of the doc of the judge's ruling: http://yfrog.com/h4n2emtj

4. Oh Scotty - do you really think a contractor is going to side with you?
And if there was damage just have your Koch buddies pay for it.

6. Hey, since when wasn't it okay to pull a figure out of your ass to make headlines?
At least, if you're a Republican lackey?

12. The damage to the capitol is as real as the 19,0000 emails supporting Walker

Which is not to call anyone a LIAR. But simply to acknowledge that hyperbole is a fundamental part of brinksmanship, which is the primary policy tool of Scotty.
